CPU Degradation: What's the best way to test your cpu for degradation?

Thread Starter
Hello, just bought a used Intel Xeon 3050 (2.13ghz dual core, Conroe,SL9TY, LGA 775) and ran some benchmarks with 3Dmark06.I noticed that in all the runs the cpu score was lower than suggested by about 100-200 points (this also caused my video scores to be a bit low as well, but I know the card is fine from previous testing). The cpu overclocks very well and is currently stable @ 3.5ghz (1.38 Vcore,62c under load) but tests low regardless of what the frequency is set at (default - 3.5ghz).All the equipment that I am running is listed in my sig.I am wondering what would would be the best program to test my cpu for possible degradation.Any help or advice would be appreciated,Thank you.

Memory timing/speed/capacity has a major effect on synthetic benchmarks

AFAIK, CPU degradation refers to a CPU's stability degrading. Over time, it'll need more and more voltage to reach the same speeds. A stable CPU doesn't just perform worse than others. It's either stable or not. What you're seeing is caused by something else.

Another problem that makes it difficult to diagnose cpu degradation is that the motherboard can degrade over time too. The power delivery of the motherboard will not be as stable as when new, thus giving dirty power to your cpu, which translate to the cpu needing more voltage to compensate.

Well I don't have any issues with stability,it passes 24hrs of Prime95 @3.5ghz with no issues. It could just be 3Dmarks numbers are inaccurate.I was just looking for a program that would test only the cpu and give me an idea if it is performing at the proper levels.I know all the other equipment in my rig is fine and performs perfectly with my E5200 or Q9650.

This. Degradation refers to stability, not performance. If you had any issues with degradation, you'd know it.

As I stated before I obviously don't have any stability issues and all the other components have been tested (Ram memtested, etc.) and performed up to par with my other processors. It's probably just 3Dmarks comparison scores are inaccurate which can happen, especially when overclocking.I would still appreciate a suggestion for a cpu benchmarking program that would have similar cpu scores for comparison.

And as these kind people have stated previously it's not degradation.

Scores can fluctuate due to differing motherboards, ram etc. Also any software you have running will also affect it to a degree.

Yes I appreciate the explanation (and rep+ B!oHaZard for doing so). When I stressed I had no stability issues the second time I was just agreeing that it wasn't a degradation issue and might just be 3Dmarks comparison scores, that's why I would like another program for cpu. Thanks!

Cinebench?
It's free, fast and comes with a comparison table.
