Good idea i guess. What system have you got now then?

I had a FX57 and 7800GTX SLI. But sadly, for some odd reason... Every single part in my comp died at the same time. I've even asked professionals on why this would happen, its very odd. The PSU was the only thing intact, and my guess is the PSU had a serious error and fried my computer. Luckly, I still had warranty on all those parts and RMAed them and sold them, now i'm using a 100$ compaq until the x6900 and G80s are released. Using the money from my old parts to get the G80s and the x6900.

This was hooked up to a high quality BELKIN surge protector BTW.

I don't think NVIDIA would release a product like that. So my guess is, as a whole.
That's what I was thinking too... Then I heard that Nvidia is releasing a PSU to be used as a secondary power source exclusively for graphic cards....

That got me worried...

How do you save up so much at this age? (You're born the same year as I am )

I'm working at an internship full-time so I can afford university tuition, fees, and books

I can barely afford a computer and I haven't upgraded much (besides extra 512 mb of memory, new psu (when mine died) and crappy GF6600 from FX5200)
since I bought it about 3 years ago...

We need to clarify whether it means 400W total PSU Wattage or 400W just fo GPU?

400w total minumum PSU usage

PCI-e regulation states that the maximum power draw of one power socket in a card be limited to 150W

edit:

just realized the card has 2 pci-e power slots... hmmm

Exactly.. which means up to 300W just for the card...

Yea, this is starting to annoy me. I doubt its 400W for the card, cos if it is there isnt much difference between the GTS and the GTX whereas the power difference of last gen (7800) was 50-100W too. And it looks like they are trying to make the GTS a lower total wattage card.

Edit: I am sure Dailytech and nVidia will clear this up soon. But I keep on reading and reading the same article over and over aagain. And btw, its still hard to know because of other parts in your system and how many amps on 12V rails etc..?

Well that would leave 150W for the rest of the system.. is that enough?

I'm not so sure

20W for hard drive, 20W for optical, 40W for mobo, 20-40W for RAM... plus the processor... without any sound card in here...
