Rack Mountable Servers? - Page 2

otherwise build your client the server he demands yourself if no one else can do it.

I understand how some clients dont understand what they are asking for but I just built a 6u server/back up system for a Dr.s Office. They wanted a rack mounted low cost system and they kept getting quoted 2500+ for what the Dr. needed done. I was able to satisfy the Drs needs at a cost of 1100.

It was built in a 6u rack mount cabinet with glass front door and and a 3U server case with 1 SSD for the main OS and 3 in raid 1 at the request of the Dr. and I am using my own Data center Server for his off location Backup. So the Dr. data is backed up I am more of a contingency in case his on location server/back system fails.
I also built a Chiropractic Office system under their budget limit.

Having an overclock in a 2U case is nuts unless you have thought very long and hard about cooling. Large companies, (HP, Dell, IBM etc) put in a lot of time working out airflow patterns and cooling systems, especially for 2U, 1U and blade systems as they can get pretty hot. I would favour the clustering idea with a few 1U or 2U servers or if you really need a LOT of power look into blade setups, maybe this client only need say 2 blades but when you get another client looking for a server just buy another blade.
