This is bound to be the future of CPU's. Once we get into 8+ cores it is completely unreasonable to think that there will be programs with enough threads to take advantage of the cores. Unless, that is, current programing methods are computerized.

My prediction - with 8 core cpu's we will have 4 cpu cores 2 gpu cores and 2 ppu/other niche cores. anything else would be overkill

that does make sense. from then on out they should go for the Mhz.

5 years ago you would of laughed at SLI and dual core CPUs being necessary.

Thats not going to be eneough power, You dont double a PC's power and double a games graphics, itl take way more power to get closer to realistic looking graphics. Plus GPU's put out way more GFlops than processors, they are FPU beasts, theyl certianly still be video cards atleast for 5 years if not alot longer.
