Somebody needs to make a dedicated gaming OS. I'm sick of hearing about how bad Windows is for games.

Funny thing, if it ever did happen, Microsoft would loose at least half of their user base.

Are you kidding? The GPU in the Xbox 360 is very similar to an X1900 AIW minus the AIW part. Even if they went with a GDDR3 6670 they would be seeing a ~400% increase in frame rates. And if you meant to say PS3 then the situation only gets worse for you.

I don't know where you get your information from, but I say it again, the 6670 isn't terribly more powerful than the gpu in the xbox. Don't believe me? Check out this handy graph with comparisons. The x1900 gets a 699 (which isn't far off the 8800gt), while the 6670 gets 1209. While that might be a small improvement, it's not much, and it's a long ways from 400%. The 6670 is beaten by the 4770.

So I stress again, we've been trolled, the 6670 won't be in the next xbox, UNLESS MS is going for a very incremental upgrade. It won't be next gen with that card, baring some other strange components.

EDIT:
For the record, the best info I have read says the xbox gpu was comparable to the x1950, not the x1900, and the x1950 was an even more powerful card, that comes somewhat close to 8800gt levels of performance. I may be wrong about this however.

For the record, the best info I have read says the xbox gpu was comparable to the x1950, not the x1900, and the x1950 was an even more powerful card, that comes somewhat close to 8800gt levels of performance. I may be wrong about this however.

X1950 is just an overclocked X1900 except the XTX which has GDDR4.

All the X1900 and X1950 cards have the same core config just different clock speeds (except as previously mentioned the X1950XTX which has GDDR4); the clocks on the 360's GPU are very similar if not exactly the same as the AIW version.

TBH I couldn't find any direct comparisons of any X1900 and the 6670 so I instead looked at a review of the 2900XT, the first ATI card to use VLIW, and compare its performance to the X1950 Pro. Then, ignoring the architectural differences, I adjusted the X1950 Pro numbers for the clock speed of the 360's GPU and then scaled the 2900XT numbers up to the core config and clock speed of the 6670. Despite that graph showing otherwise, those numbers are in a synthetic benchmark (that says that the GTX 580 is 23% faster than the HD 6990)... whatever, if I'm actually wrong, I apologize.

EDIT: For the record, according to Anandtech, on average the 2900XT with 320 VLIW stream processors is more than twice as fast as the X1950 Pro. The 6670 has 480 SPs and some have GDDR5. Even if you account for the 6670 having 37% less memory bandwidth you still get a number significantly higher than 73%. On top of that the 6670 GDDR5 does 768 GFLOPS whereas the 2900XT does 475 (can't find numbers for the X1900 series).

Interesting. Wonder if they've learned that people won't so much more for a console even if it's higher quality.

Of course it's possible, but integrated likely won't be anywhere near the top... ever. Even with GPGPUs, dedicated will be better.

-.- If we did that then how will I watch (listen to) GSL, search music on youtube in between commercial, download torrent, play tf2, chat on Skype, while alt tabbing to post stuff on ocn? btw console are only optimize because they only have to optimize it for one specific hardware.

I think it would be cool if they came out with a console that lets you upgrade. Like say you can switch out between a 67xx series and a 68xx if you want higher levels of graphics. You could buy the lower end model at first but if you want more graphics then you can upgrade. Have the console auto adjust the level of detail based on the card that is installed. Would that be difficult to code? Maybe ssd support?

You'd have to do tiered graphics cards, with a very limited range of what's available. Even still, you're introducing unwanted PC complexity into the console market. Even if they're made simple, like "Xbox 720 Tier 1/2/3 graphics", you'd end up with users asking "Do I need Tier x to run this game?" Then they'll end up cracking open their consoles and possibly breaking something, and then they'll complaining when MS tells them they voided the warranty by opening the consoles. Either that or GameStop has "service plans" or something to install the tiered cards without destroying the warranty. So now you not only have to pay for the price of the upgraded graphics, you have to pay someone to install it. I don't think the console market would adopt it. Consoles are more about being cheap and easy to use. Turn it on, play a game. That's the appeal of consoles.

Then again, CoD just releases a map pack every year and they sell like twinkies in a nuclear holocaust, so who knows?
