Dell will start shipping its first ultrabook, the XPS 13, in the U.S. and Canada starting next week, the company said on Thursday.

The ultrabook is priced starting at US$999 with a Core i5 processor, a Dell spokesman said. The XPS 13 will become available elsewhere later in March.

For that money I'd rather buy a Lenovo and not care as much about it's thickness.

For the amount of money you spent on your monitor, I would've rather bought a 50 inch LED TV and not care as much about it's resolution. rolleyes.gif

Please be respectful if you reply to my post. If you're going to spend $999 for an ultrabook, why not just get a MacBook Air? All Mac bashing aside, it's a wonderful machine with better battery life, size, weight, and aesthetics. All for a similar price.

These non-Apple "ultrabooks" need to lower their prIces badly. They're playing games in the wrong market.

The only reason I don't like Apple is their products are grossly over priced, I'll give them this though, they are innovative, for sure...

Other than that, I hate mobile products in general, though I'm coming to need something to distract me while my wife drags me along to go shopping, biggrin.gif

I was thinking the same thing. If someone is going to spend that much money on a portable machine I'n pretty sure they have the air in their sights already, regardless of the specs.

Sorry guys, I'm not impressed by apple at all. I don't feel that they are adding anything new to the technology just presenting it in a different shell. Heck the guts of my laptop is almost identical to that of a macbook these days.

Anyways, waiting for the day they throw a competent GPU into one of those ultrabooks. I have an Nvidia Gt540m in my Asus now, and it's pretty darn thin, but they can do better smile.gif

Agreed wholeheartedly.

Though the reason why you'd get this over a MBA is if you hate Apple so much that you just couldn't live with the Apple logo on your laptop, but love everything else about it.

It's kind of funny how Apple has had the MBA out for four years now and other companies are finally latching on and well, for a lack of better words either following right in Apple's footsteps, copying, or just realizing Apple had it right to begin with.

If these Ultrabooks can land in the $600-700 range or lower, then we have a contender, until then, they're stupidly priced when you can get a MBA and beyond stellar Customer Service pretty much anywhere instantly (huge advantage to Apple and their stores tbh).

My idea is. Spend more money get an Asus Zenbook and get a 1600x900 res instead of 1366x768.
