It weighs 2.99 pounds (1.35 kilograms) and measures 0.2 inches (6 mm) thick. It can run up to eight hours on a battery charge

eek.gif

I just picked up the ruler on my desk and got an idea for what 0.2 inches looks like....

Me either.

Meh. It's a Dell and doesn't look the best. I'd rather get a Lenovo or Asus.

These non-Apple "ultrabooks" need to lower their prIces badly. They're playing games in the wrong market.

This, not to mention the MBA has a pretty decent IPS display smile.gif

Apple doesnt innovate "guts"...i'm not sure what you mean, unless you refer back to it's powerPC days. Aren't all computers different visual representations of the same basic hardware? Anyways, your response does not really pertain to the discussion at hand.

But if you really want to split hairs, did they not develop Mini DisplayPort? Which they then made open and is now adopted as an industry standard? Your 6970 has Apple developed technology. rolleyes.gif

It's kind of funny how Apple has had the MBA out for four years now and other companies are finally latching on and well, for a lack of better words either following right in Apple's footsteps, copying, or just realizing Apple had it right to begin with.
If these Ultrabooks can land in the $600-700 range or lower, then we have a contender, until then, they're stupidly priced when you can get a MBA and beyond stellar Customer Service pretty much anywhere instantly (huge advantage to Apple and their stores tbh).
Yes. Unfortunately when the MBA came out everyone was questioning why get this when you can get a netbook...people hung up on the fact that it lacked an optical drive, but overlooked the fact that it had a Core processor and was a great deal more powerful than a silly Atom.

Only until recently Intel coined the term "ultrabook" (2011) and now companies are jumping on it left and right realizing there is a real demand. Apple's macbook has been out since 2008. It took the industry 3 years to adapt.

Nope, no IPS, but maybe in the next refresh with the crazy resolution displays coming out, and Lion's "resolution independence".

it looks a lot like the macbook air with a plastic underside.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/250652/initial_impressions_dell_xps_13.html

reading that article, i can see Apple taking legal action. The thing's definitely got macbook air styling. A solid clickable touchpad that can be pressed anywhere? Please...

but anyway, a lower resolution, plastic build...you're better off getting the MBA at that price.

I looked at the images and said, "Those hinges are not going to last." Then I went back to my Thinkpad.

My next laptop is probably a Macbook Air/Pro.

Because there are equal or better options on the market with better hardware and a better suite of software (such as with Windows) all for a similar price.

If they're in the wrong market then it's because they offer better specifications for a similar price then the Macbook air.

With the Asus Zenbook, you get a 1600x900 resolution display, IPS, better performance, longer battery life, and USB 3.0 all for $100 less than a Macbook Air.
