The Zenbook is the one of the higher end Windows ultrabooks and for the same configuration, it's still cheaper than Apple. Cheaper and it gets better battery life and its lighter and thinner.

With the Zenbook you also get a lower quality laptop with terrible customer service. It's up to you but I'll take the Air.

The MBA is a great laptop for work. Of course it depends what you define as "work" but there's a very large percentage of people who can work on one comfortably. Not everybody needs their computer to be a powerhouse. Connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse to it for added comfort when in the office and it's great.

Says you. Tons of people at my company use one for work. This other company I'm familiar with has a virtual desktop infrastructure you can access over any VMware View client -- which also comes as an iPad app.

Apple did not patent the Ultrabook form factor. They can't do that since Ultrabook is an Intel trademark. Ultrabook is also not a form factor. Apple did patent the design of the MacBook Air. There's a big difference, and only a couple of Ultrabooks out there actually look like the MacBook Air (the Zenbook first and foremost -- it's a sad knockoff).

Screen res is all that matters. The rest of the parts are usually the same or similar across all manufactures. If it does not have a 900+ vertical res, then it is craptastic and I want nothing to do with it. In-fact it is time for all notebooks, laptops, and ultrabooks to go 1080!

A little off topic but still under Dell. I'm still chucking and laugh how Dell claim the most compact notebook and thin....

i would go look into getting one of these for work...i really could use an ultrabook to carry around rather then my monster old school 15.4 MSI. I just cant see spending 1000 dollars on it....probably a good machine, but thats a kick in the wallet....wish ultrabooks would come down in price already, guess that 11 inch Lenovo is looking better and better each day...

Asus Zenbook looks way thinner.

If you would read all of the marketing material, Dell says that the XPS blah blah is "the world's thinnest fully featured notebook." I presume what they mean by that is that the XPS has an optical drive whereas the Zenbook and of course the MBA do not.

Please don't take my post as bashing or singling out any one person. I just really have a low tolerance for misinformation and it seemed to have been running rampant in this thread, hence my little rant.biggrin.gif Like I said everybody makes mistakes so no worries.thumb.gif It's very easy to confuse the Zenbook and Transformer Prime, especially since the Prime looks so much like the Zenbook.

Also and to dispel any confusion... it's the XPS 14 that is advertised as the thinnest fully-featured notebook. The XPS 14 is not an Ultrabook. The XPS 13 is Dell's Ultrabook and it does not have an optical drive.

Yea we all make mistakes. It's one thing to make a random mistake in a regular post; but it's another thing to make a mistake in an extremely long rebuttal post full of quotes and cited benchmark figures. You just looked 10x more stupid.
