Simple reason for that business theory is that those people who buy their products are those who have no idea what is the real cost behind each component and never heard or avoid custom build PC. All they know is gaming and follow the fake marketing hype from Dell, HP... "Top end performance" "Best PC" "Best Buy!" "Amazing Gaming Performance". Meanwhile when we look at those OEM spec... HD 6850.... 555M GT, etc.etc (Mid range product and they are calling it top end performances.... ) yeah right...
They just milked those uneducated people. What else to it? To us it's a rip off obviously.
Look at Apple... RAM upgrade pricing... or SSD pricing still at $1000+... lol and don't forget the upgrade won't let you keep the stock one. That's the catch.
This is why I always tell people if you really want OEM build, make sure you stick with the default ram minimum and HDD as well. You get better one at lower costs.
