That would be a 3+1 board.

In order to figure out how many power phases a board has, count the chokes to the left, and sometimes above, the CPU socket. If there are 4 chokes, then it's a 3+1 board. 5 chokes = 4+1, 10 chokes, 8+2, etc etc.
A choke looks like this

There will usually, if not always, be a choke next to the 4/8 pin power connector. That choke has nothing to do with the power phases of a board though, so ignore it.

Someone has offered me $60 for the board and i only payed $80 for it, so im considering upgradeing. I count 11 so what does that mean?

How important is the power phase to overclocking? What would happen if you pushed the board i have too far?

You ideally don't want to be using the A75M-HVS to overclock the 3870K because it is not designed for overclocking - it is a low end, low capacity 3+1 phase VRM system with no cooling and the 3870k is the full on 100W APU (CPU AND GPU both share the 3 phases).  I recommend you look for a new board unless you want to face reliability issues (or a VRM failure).  Read more in my sig: About VRMs & MOSFETs

Power phase is pretty important. 4+2 or 8+2 is what I would recommend. The gigabyte board you suggested doesn't have any VRM cooling. VRMs are the circles and squares to the left of your CPU socket. Look for a board that has good heatsinks, and a good power phase. If you push a low end board to far it will overheat and there will be a catastrophic failure in one or more components. ie fire, melting, or you will render your board inoperable. xd_1771 suggested the same reading that I did a few posts ago. Read this thread. It was my very first post on OC.net and xd_1771 saved me big time. Thanks xd. wink.gif
