I am currently using a Samsung 2232BW monitor.
would you fine folks point me in the direction of a Good Gaming monitor please.

My budget is $500 (though if need be, i can go up to $800)
I would like to get 120hz, and something 24" or larger. Though i would REALLY like something in the range of 30".

I dont know much about monitor specs, so your advice would be MUCH appreciated!
Please share advice about where to purchase as well. Thank you all So much! And i will +Rep. those who help me.upsidedwnsmiley.gif

If you aren't afraid of glossy, the samsung S27a750d will fit your criteria quite nicely.

The benq xl2420t will fit the bill if you happen to not want glossy.

(Also, you won't get 120hz on IPS because no true 120hz IPS monitor is out on the market at the moment)

^ Samsung 750D 27" for $399 when it's back in stock at tigerdirect. must have displayport.

fyi - no such thing as a 120hz ips.

EDIT: Damn you De-Zant...just barely beat me..and with almost the same exact post! lol.

Thank you for the info about IPS guys! Rep for both of you!

De-Zant ...i would prefer matte.
would 30 inches be pretty much out of the question for my budget?

the best matted 120hz is a 24" BenQ XL2420....im not sure if there is one that is any bigger...there might be..but i don't think so, as far as 120hz is concerned. And $800 is a BIG budget....you can basically get any monitor you want...tho a 30" IPS (which are always matted, and come in very high resolutions - much higher than 1080p on the 120hz monitors) might hit that limit. HP and Dell seem to be the favorites for IPS monitors.

You won't get a true 120hz monitor larger than 27". And both of the matte choices in the 27" section are much inferior to the BenQ XL2420t. Those being the acer HN274H and the asus VG278H. The latter is not outright terrible but has QC issues and isn't particularly good, while the former is just... bad.

For matte 120hz, the benQ xl2420t is the best choice.

Which are not 120hz, which is what the OP wants.

As people said, there's no such thing as 120 hz IPS panel, so you'll be choosing between one of several 27" inch 120 Hz screens, or a 27 inch IPS - something like U2711 or ZR2740w , which is occasionally available for $700-800.

If you're a very competitive gamer, go for the 120 hz screens. If you're a casual gamer who enjoys beautiful graphics, then get an IPS screen. Samsung S27A950D is a terrific 120 hz monitor.

I agree with the above 100%. I hate it when people say 120Hz is for everything...

Thank you all for the fast replies. And thanks for informing me about IPS not being 120hz...like i said...i dont know much about monitor specs, and i REALLY appreciate you guys educating me.
i think i will be going with De-Zant's suggestion of the BenQ xl2420t, as i really am against glossy and i hear alot of good things about 120hz.
Plus Rep for everyone who suggested, and Thanks again!
