Having issues with WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics Bootable CD

Thread Starter
So I am under a hunch one of my HD's are going bad, and I called up WD Support and was told to download this tool to help scan my drives and see what is going on. However, I am unsuccessful at creating a bootable disk, I get an error saying that MS-DOS cant be located, and to press any key to try again. I have tried two different disks, both the zip file, and the iso file, and I can't get a disk to boot. My windows 7 disk works fine, so I know its not a drive issue.

Can someone try downloading this tool and burning it to a CD and see if they get the same results, or provide me with a working .iso file?

Thanks

You could try some other diagnostics tools for checking the health on your harddrives if you are unsuccessfull with the Lifeguard bootable CD creation.

Personally I like using HD Tune. The free version is quite nice, personally I use the Pro on my systems, but that one costs though. But you're able to do good health checks with the free version.
There's also a couple of other good once out there.

Anyhow, if you are unsuccessfull making a bootable CD, you could try creating a bootable USB stick instead, and just extract the files from the zip or iso file onto it and see if that works better for you?

Yea I have seatools, made the CD and it works fine, so I am going to try that here in a little bit. The drives are in raid, so I am scanning one at a time to see which one, if any, are going south on me.

I think that the data lifeguard file is missing some files, which is why I am having the issue in the first place.

EDIT: Seatools doesn't work either, I get a "free dos" message, and nothing. rolleyes.gif

Regarding the HDD's, what's caused you to get a hunch of them going bad?

Thankfully I have access to another Seagate bootable program, and one HD is good to go, took a little under 2 hours to scan, when I get home tonight, I will be scanning the other one.

And here is my hunch, http://www.overclock.net/t/1215303/slow-hd-speeds-in-hd-tune
