How efficient should a water loop be?

Hi guys,

Is there a general rule as to how efficient a great water loop should be? Meaning the relation between ambient, water temp and cpu temp? Cpu temp would vary depending on amd or intel but generally speaking what should the goal be?

Mainly curious because when my ambient temp is in the 72-75F (mid 20's C) range, while gaming or stress testing coolant temp through the antec 920 built in temp sensor reads 30-33c, on the intel 2500k at 1.408v usually 54-62C depending on gaming or stress testing. Is that a good ambient vs coolant temp ratio and coolant temp to cpu temp ratio? Wondering if the cpu block is inefficient compared to a custom one.

Im working with a modded closed loop (pics in rig below) and imagine the fact that a custom loop would have a better cpu block, larger tube dia. to flow more, and possibly more efficient radiators (240mm or 2x120mm) would all contribute to lower temps. I just want to know what results you guys get before I shell out a bunch more cash to see if its even worth it at this time, especially with ivy needing less juice to go fast.

For a general rule, I refer to Skinnee's classification.  He is an expert in this field and so his 'rule' has good value for reference.

So, your ambient temp is mid 20's (say, 25C) and your coolant temp is 30-33C (say, 31.5C).  I suppose your Delta is 31.5 - 25 = 6.5C which makes your loop close to a 'High Performance' one.

they are measured form air flown into your radiator. The temperature of which would be slightly higher than ambient if your radiator is mounted inside the case.
