[LM] Windows Phone Switchers Tell All: Giving Up iOS, Android and BlackBerry

Microsoft made significant progress with its recent Windows Phone 7.5 software update, and a lot of people who try the OS seem to like it. The toughest part is getting people to try it in the first place, especially those who are wedded to iOS or Android. To give Windows Phone a fair shake, we had three LAPTOP staffers gave up their iPhones, Android handsets, or BlackBerries for a week. Here’s what we loved about the OS, and what could use work.

Most of the comments seem to be about the hardware and bright colours with very little about the OS..

Android user - More impressed with the screen quality, camera and bright colours, That's phone related and has very little to do with the OS.

Blackberry user - Said it's better then Blackerberry but not a better technology then either iOS or android.

Iphone - Not enough apps and didn't really seem to like it very much.

I can skin my android phone in seconds to look like W7.5 interface...

It's always nice to see a more competitive mobile OS in the market now.

"App-Girl" was my favorite. ZOMGZ0RZ I LOVEZ APPS.

Honestly, it's like she uses it as a toy instead of a phone. Which is NOT the demographic Windows Phone is aimed at.

Tiles is just a very small part of the overall WP UI.

IMO, Microsoft should really focus on disenfranchised Blackberry users. Right now there is no one true enterprise standard for mobile phones. Iphones security blows, Android is too open and varied, and Blackberry, well Blackberry needs to be put in the ground, it's begining to stink.

Microsoft has a real oppurtunity to make huge leaps in the business market for mobile technology if they would just stop putting all their effort into making facebook posts easier and figure out a way to get Excel to work on a mobile interface.

Windows Phone 8 will focus on business,

On the enterprise side, there will be BitLocker encryption support for full-disk encryption of Windows Phone 8 devices and a line-of-business application support for businesses to deploy apps behind company firewalls.

This post actually turned out to be gold. The original article was somewhat weak, but the "comments" that followed were, for the most part, informative and thoughtful. Now that is internet magic when the people who comment trump the writers.

In a semi off-topic observation, I can not end this post without mentioning "App-girl"......(chuckle). I work with her male counterpart, "App-douche". He is always showing everybody the latest app he found......doesn't matter if you want to see it or not. You know the type. Along with his army of "apzzzz", "App-douche" has a huge collection of bootleg movies and music. Whoops, I should clarify to you like he did to me. "I didn't steal it! It was free on the internet......There's a bunch of websites with free stuff" was the gist of the explanation.

Microsoft would be better off going after Blackberrys dying business share as most offices use Windows anyway.

Android is just to open and offers to many options in terms of roms and UI customisations to be beaten easily....

that's why most people do go with android, because they like the option of doing what ever the hell they want with there phone and OS...

They can try to beat Apple and BB with Easy of use but people that are in for Android are for totally different reasons.
