Help with my first water cooling system

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
Ok so I'm finally going to get into water cooling and after some research I'm going with a kit first and just upgrading later on. The kit is

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=30187:de9373625b7e2f7ad6b432e2e8bdc93c

Along with 3/8" ID and 5/8" OD tubing and compression fittings. Now what I want to know is will this be enough for one CPU and one GPU? CPU won't be OCed too much just a little bit, and GPU won't be OCed at all. Also will this fit into a Corsair Obsidian 650D?

Also I forgot to ask, but how much harder would it be to mount it on top?

It wouldnt be hard to mount it on but you would have barbs pointing up unless you cut the top of the case (not recommended).

it would look something like this

|
||radiator|||
|||||||||||||||case||||||||||||||

that just doesn't look right imo plus the hose required would be incredibly long imo. it should fit i don't see how it wouldn't it would be close to the mobo but that really isn't an issue...

but i am not sure you would want to look at the dimensions and the space between the top of the mobo and the very top of the case.

I have the RS240 and it does a good job on my CPU but I'm not sure I would add a GPU to it, you could look into getting a 120 to put in the back or even a 200mm to put where the front fan it.

I wouldn't mind it looking weird actually. I have 2 GPUs, I don't think just one 120 would be enough for both would it? Or will I have to get another rad somewhere

Yea since you have two gpu's i would just grab a rs240... but i am not sure the pump in the rasa kit would be able to keep up imo.

I am pretty sure you can remove the front fan and mount the rad there can you mount one of the hdd bays closer to the psu? i know with the 600t you can but i am not sure with the 650d.....

I'm not sure if I can, but so basically I should get 2 RS240s if I want to do CPU and both GPUs? I might actually wait until I upgrade from my crossfire 6970s to one 7970, would an RS240 and a 120 be enough?

depends on your clock speed, but i would get the rx 240 because it would be quieter to run and also it would dissipate heat a lot better imo I have it i am running my 2600k @ 4.5 and a 580 @ 950/1900 and i never exceed 72c. i would ask in the 650d club to see if a rx would fit the top.

If you were to put the 6970's underwater then a you can add a rx120 i suppose.
