[Build Log] Return of the Sith - Page 14

Just a random picture of the saber inside the case...Nothing more, nothing less.

Definitely not an indication of it's final location.

My MAJOR issue up to this point has been the clients.

Especially when I took the project over, I had a very elaborate "dream" for this build and it started to happen only to be smacked down.

Then I simplified it yet again, only to have that idea smacked down.

The real issue I have with taking it as far as I want to is the ease of use...There won't be any.

Even if I put in a stand alone piece...At this point, that complicates things tremendously.

I'll be the first to admit that I want to take this MUCH FURTHER but, due to the above limitations, I cannot.

If we end up flipping the bill and it's mine...Then I'll start to make some magic happen long-term but, as it is, I've had to make it as "simple" as it is.

I'm not happy with that...but, let's be real about how much this build has already cost...I'm not about to sit here and break down the math...But, do it in your head...So, I'd quite frankly, rather have the customer get what he wants and flip the bill prior to my going above and beyond, just to lose the project.

Originally I WAS going to do 2 of these but, with the admin side of my business taking off, it's very hard for me to be home/hands on and actually do this...I don't trust the "minions" yet enough to actually work on this project...So, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

This experience has taught me a few things thus far...I need to do more updates and they need to be more visual and I'd really like to include "you guys" in the process much more because I don't want to be "just another vendor"...I want to bring the end user into his own build and include them more...So, I thank you all for that advice and I promise things will change...

I'm also not opposed to asking for help when I need it, as you all have seen so, there's a good relationship to come here, I hope, especially with that 5entinal guy...

So an actual update...Today I ordered a 2nd ax1200i because having an ax1200 and an ax1200i was just illogical.

Also, on the motherboard front...I sent a feeler to a sponsor today to figure out how they'd feel when I dumped their motherboard for another alternative...I really want to go X79 but, we'll see at what cost.

Haven't decided really...I've had some serious problems with Asus...So, this will definitely be pinch & pray situation but, hopefully it'll work.

At this rate, I should be finished in the next 3 weeks...So keep your eyes open!

I absolutely agree.

My original "vision" was to have the lightsaber actually in a "stasis chamber" that would be surrounded by fluid...Unfortunately, the batch of tubing I received didn't work out, that alone was 150$ directly out of my pocket.

When I informed my customer of what the upkeep on some of the parts could be, I had to "dumb" down the origial concept tremendously...Basically to what it is now.

Long-Term, if we decide to keep this (I was informed after my previous post that the decision would ultimately be mine) I will be doing some long-term changes, including actually creating my stasis chamber.

Thanks to Mayhem I have a brilliant orange and red pastels so, I'd really like to expand on those and make this pop, regardless of it's case, etc.

I remember speaking about this a few months ago.

Initially "we" were told by the guys at Corsair that these would be the same cables as the AX1200...So, I of course, future prepped and bought 2 sets of cables.

Well, somewhere down the line they decided that going the route of the AX1200 was a bad idea because then you'd have another unique set of cables only available for the AX1200i...So, what they did was swap the layout to the HX line rather than keeping with the AX line.

I understand why they did it...It's a money saver and just smart business but, unfortunately, I can name 5/6 other builds off the top of my head that went out and bought the AX1200 sleeved cables because, this is what we were told.

When I received my AX1200i last week, the only thing I actually tested was the PSU cable so, I posted that all cables were go, in the thinking that, we were told they were the same cables, the PSU cable fits, we're good to go. ~ Well, we're not good to go.

As the Corsair rep confirmed, they actually combined the AX 24 pin with the HX cable base...Essentially making it a pure HX.



This is a bad picture I know but, I haven't been home since I took these...*sigh* ~ The layout's the same in terms of generally where everything is but the headers (or whatever you want to call them) are from the HX.

So essentially if you purchased an AX1200 sleeved kit from Corsair with the intent to use it on the AX1200i, you're boned.

I discussed some things with my client last night and...Ultimately, I think I'll be buying it back...They need some server work that their current network team can't address so, it's a good trade-off.

I'm going to update the OP a bit.

Some things to expect:

I will be finishing this build the way the client asked because, I, in the least owe them that much.

I will not be painting the case...Jim found this deep crimson-red and quite frankly, it's far too awesome to paint over...I will be adding some intense vinyl that won't even look like vinyl so, that's coming down the pipeline.

I will be doing a custom lightsaber stasis chamber. ~ I called my FX guy and he's very excited to help me on this but, it's going to be a complicated project.

I will be doing this on the X79 platform but, with an EVGA Classified X79.

It will have a very industrial theme...Much like Vader's mask...I won't go into too much detail right now but, it's going to be hot.
