I'm losing the fight against adware and spyware.

Thread Starter
I am losing the fight. And I'm getting really ticked off. I just reinstalled Windows. And I am already losing the fight. Holy crap, am I tired of it.

Every 10 minutes an IE window pops up and shows me a commercial for an antivirus program, and opens a download window, and asks me where I want to download it.

I don't even use IE, I use firefox.

What else could I use to beat the living twinkies out of this adware?

This is what I am using now to help fight it: Firefox, AVG Free Edition, NOD32 Antivirus, SpywareStopper.

I don't use Spybot S&D any more and I dont use Ad-Aware Personal, because after 2 years of using them, they did not do one thing to stop my issues.

Please helps!!!!

Try advanced windows care (free beta). Myself and a number of fellows on this site have had excellent results with it.

If you get alot of that suff on there, some times you can't do to much to stop it. A wile back I used spysweaper and spybot but never solves the problem long term. But the end all solve the problem for good answer is to partition your HD so you only have 20gigs for your C then keep all your files/data on the D partition. Then just reformat the C partition when it gets bad. Only thing you will have to do thats a pain is reinstall any programs you had on the C again.

I have a pc pretty much dedicated to serfing the web and thats what I do. It has windows SP1 and only a 10gig C partition so it only takes me 15min to reformat the C. After that its spyware free and all my important stuff is on the D partition on the same HD.

Do this, and trust me on this, I do this ALOT!

1) uninstall NOD32 (multiple antiviruses is pointless)
2) uninstall Spyware Stopper
3) download a trial of Trend Micro AntiSpyware
4) download ad-aware personal (it actually works...really)
5) run trend micro first, make sure to update it (the "about" tab)
6) do a full scan with TM while running a scan with an updated AVG
7) restart the computer in safe mode
8) do a full scan with Ad-aware
9) run hijackthis and clean out any iffy looking crap (only if you know what you're doing)

you need sp2...

and like the others said.. run adaware, hijackthis and advanced windows care

A friend of mine , everytime that starts windows , 5 pop-ups show up in IE.
He uses OPERA ,and has 2 anti-virus and 4 anti-spyware programs , but still they pop-up...
We can't even reinstall windows , because he doesn't know the weareabouts of the cd...
Copy your data to another HD or DVD's and FORMAT your HD.
And before conecting to the net get a REAL anti-virus like Panda 2007.
I use Panda 2007 , Spybot , Windows Defender Beta and Advanced Windows Care and i'm free of ads and spyware.

Running two antiviruses is worse then running one. Just download a copy of AntiVir or AVG Free. Your friend doesn't really know what he's doing does he.
I maintain about 20 different computers with three programs and I never have problems. I just run AntiVir, Ewido and AWC.

sp2 is mandatory now a days to keep the virii and spyware at bay. as well with games that require sp2 to be installed to play , like bf2 and the 1.4 patch.. running a pc hooked up to the internet without sp2 is moronic.
