hmm, tell that to all the people running pirated versions of WinXP Corporate. most of them dont have SP2 installed and are doing just fine. Not everyone here plays BF2 (myself Not included)

M$ is not god. Really, there's not 100,000 hackers all trying to hack your computer out there, what will they find? A music collection and Barbies Horse Adventure?

When you reformatted did you do a FULL Format or a Quick Format? You may want to try that, or hook your HD up to another computer and Write 0s to the whole drive using a WD program, theres an FAQ on it. Other than that right when you install windows and your mobo drivers go straight to microsoft.com and Dl all updates.

Panda is horrible. It uses the dll files for internet surfing. It's almost impossible to uninstall. If you do you run a pretty good chance of messing up the drivers for your internet. It didn't work for me anyway. I think preventative medicine is better in this case. (Firewall, IP blocker) I'd get Zonealarm and PeerGuardian. Also don't visit questionable websites. I'm not saying you did but anything with "Warez, Free P0rnz, etc." will give you a nasty virus.... just like in real life! I'd stick with AVG and AdAware. Just install SP2 and update windows BEFORE doing anything else. Then Zonealarm, then the adware/spyware programs.

Hmmm, i am running Corperate Edition. And the last time i formated i only installed sp1 and the patches. And was bombarded with spyware. Sp2 also patched alot of exploits. Its better to be safe than sorry IMO. And no they wouldnt find Barbies Horse Adventure .. what they would find is current recording sessions im working on for clients of mine. That couldnt be replaced. Without re-recording them, and well that would cost me money. So its better to be safe than sorry.

You don't log into your bank account? You don't purhcase things online? Unless they're really really morbid they'll want more than Barbie's Horse Adventure.

i know a lot of ppl don't rate Norton, but its all i use and i find it fantastic, i get no mailware or whatever.
i run spybot now and again but don't need it much .
back in the day when i used multiple programs and spyware, i had nothing but problems.
just food for thought.

been there done that, i have to say that having paid for Norton for 2 years now, it is far superior to Free Avg. if it wasn't , believe me, i'd have stayed with the free option.

The thing is man, that people who code virii go out of there way to write the code so it will disable the most common AV programs out, like norton, mcafee ect. Ive been there and done that .. thats why i use AVG now.

That is incredibly bad advice. SP2 is free, fixes many bugs both performance and virus wise, and is required for much more than just BF2. The audio drivers for my newest motherboard require SP2. There is no reason not to update, especially when it is FREE........unless you think Microsoft got the OS perfect the first 4 times.......and if so, I have some property on Venus I can sell you.

To the thread starter, update to SP2 ASAP, get a single, GOOD anti-virus suite. I use and highly recomend Trend Micro's Pc-cillin Internet Security suite, it fully integrates into Windows and actually works, unlike MacAfee and Norton. I just upgraded to PC-cillin 2007 last night, been using their product for about 5 years now, and 2007 allows you to protect 3 computers with each copy purchased.......
