I'm losing the fight against adware and spyware. - Page 3

A few things, hijackthis.exe works wonders- as long as you know what your crossing off. It lists all the programs that boot up/dll's and plugins when windows starts. You can check the ones that don't look like they should be there and clear them off for your next boot. Pair that with adaware, avast and I have ZERO problems with adware/spyware.

www.avast.com ~avast (home edition)
www.lavasoft.com ~adaware

BTW these are all free. I've put found that avast seems to work better than norton and avg, but thats just with my personal experiences/opinion.

I strongly disagree.. I have multible PC's with sp2 and one for the net with sp1 so i experience both worlds on a daily basis. I like my sp1 OS more than my sp2's because its not anal about web serfing.

SP2: do you wana view this page
DigitrevX: yes
SP2: do you really wana view this page
DigitrevX: yes I do
SP2: do you really really wana view this page
DigitrevX: YES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YES

I get this for my e-mail all the time when i use the pc in the specs with sp2 but never have a problem with my other pc with sp1.

If your saying I'm a idiot the jokes on you because I can refromat with no bs like you have to with newer OS's with sp2 and I can do it as fast as it takes software to do a deep level scan. After using both service packs for over a year now I see no diffrence in one being more prone to viruses. So I reformat and choose not to trust 3rd party ani virus software.

btw, i just posted this with sp1

I use AVG, Spybot, Hyjackthis and my computer is fully updated. I have no problems with this sort of thing and I haven't for years. If you don't know what you're doing with hyjackthis figure it out. That program is a must have.

Lets get back on topic instead of stating our favorite security apps, we can start a seperate thread for that.

I would recommend downloading SP2 with the computer you have now, burn the .exe to a disc. Yes you can download SP2 stand-alone. Microsoft says its for IT Pros for deploying it to multiple PCs and for Developers. Here's the link to the page: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Download that (big file, 300MB or so) and burn it to a disc, then before you install any drivers at all, run the SP2 .exe and install it. It may take a while to install, just walk away if you need to and come back. Then reboot, install the necessary drivers, install your security apps (antivirus, spyware, etc.) and connect to the web. This is what I have done and it's worked fine for me. I also do stay away from those shady sites as a member has recommended, that's where I find most spyware trying to install itself so I just steer clear.

Another thing I would recommend is, downloading SP2 and all of the latest drivers, all the latest versions of your security apps, firefox, and your plug-ins (.net framework, java, etc.). Then, burn all of those to a cd so when you reformat you have everything there for you without having to connect to the internet and therefore risking yourself for that 10 min it takes you to get all of your protection.

WOW. Thank you all for your insight. Okay... where to begin... I uninstalled that NOD32 thing, and I uninstalled the other Spyware Blocker that I had.

I installed Advanced Windows Care, also the Trend-Micro anti-spyware.
But again the darn IE window popped up and gave me an advertisement.

How does this stuff get onto my system? You might think I surf bad sites, but I do not.

My favorites sites, are pcgamer.com, cnn, bbcnews, pcworld, and military websites.

I have my OUTLOOK blocking all images in my e-mails. And I have over 235,283 e-mail adresses blocked by cloudmark.

anywho...

can I file a lawsuit against these websites? Like systemdoctor.com keeps coming up, it breaks control of my computer gives me 5 pop-ups, and makes it hard to close.

Good luck with that, if you win, you'll replace Chuck Norris as my idol
