[Fud] Kepler GK104 cards in production - Page 20

If this is going to be a mid-range card in their next line-up then it should drop to around $300 after the high-end cards come out.

This isn't Nvidia's fastest Kepler card and won't even be close to GK 110.

To summarize the whole price debate in a nutshell...

Nvidia = Higher Performance at a higher premium
AMD = Less Perfomance at a better price/perfomance ratio

If we're going based on last two released series anyway. I dont personally see it otherwise. Nvidia had the chance to totally take the price/perfomance card by lowering the prices across thier 500 series line, but didn't by much.

I was expecting such a price drop when the 7000 Series came out that it would have been a no brainer to SLI my 580. However I hardly call a $50 drop to $450 much of a drop. It settled in with the 7950 pricing / perfomance range. Nvidia could have kept some money on the table but dropped the ball.

What was a turn around was AMD (though smart) taking the Nvidia pricing scheme and price at a premium this round. Who can blame them for being top card and no competition. Something most AMD price/performance fans didn't see coming. In retrospect we might be also taken by surprise by Nvidia despite all everyones rationalizing what Nvidia is going to do next.

We can all play Monday night arm chair quarter backs speculating but none of us regardless of how much one tries to dispute thier opinion is going to know for sure either way.

As for the threads topic and Nvidia's only statement about Kepler is 'hard launch' only. No pre-released specs. Period.

I hope it's soon because I have upgrade sickness. Not because I need to but because I like to, buying sticks of RAM and a new monitor only leaves me with an SSD and CPU Cooler upgrade when ive set money aside for either two 680's in SLI or one 690 and would rather have that over what's left. wink.gif

I'd like to think I could wait for a non-reference Lightning but I know it will be first reference EVGA card on the market. I'm glad the noise level on Nvidia fans are quiter at least when it comes to reference. I've had a great card in this OC'd card I've had this last year. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping this rumor to be true but take it with a grain of salt and less of others opinions.

Haha I know what you mean. I can't wait to upgrade, but I have to wait!!!

I love to upgrade also an this past year has been the first time I ever stepped in to the "High-end" gpu scene with my purchase of 2 GTX 580 classified ultras. While the performance is great as far as I'm concerned I just don't see how the pricing speculation of some will work out. If their new mid grad cards will exceed the performance of their previous high-end cards and the stuff to make the newer cards is in high demand the price would be higher that what we have been seeing in past series. My only expectation is that the pricing wont be off the wall crazy prices because in all honesty... Every consumer has a line they tend not to cross for certain items. Even if its the end all be all of graphics performance.. if its priced at 900 dollars a single gpu card... they can keep it imo. I felt nuts spending 1100 bucks on 2 cards and pretty much swore I wouldn't do it again. (That last part never actually happens BTW) I always end up doing it each year mad.gif

No matter the performance, the pricing will be outrageous as always. New cards these days seem to just keep climbing in price instead of replacing older models..

What I think will happen is that nVidia will release the first card in their line-up that beats the 7970, but no more than that. For example, if it's the 670 that beats the 7970, then we won't see the 680 also released at or about the same time. I just don't think the average consumer has the cash to spend on the big boys at present, and I think many enthusiasts will make do with two in SLI.

If you did pull the trigger it's a great card no one is denying that. Numbers speak for themselves.

However I think that right now if one can hold off until April with Nvidia being close to release it may start the pricing war that usually follows and be better all around for both sides of the coin. Then you can make your decision based on both cards performance and price rather than close the door before you peak inside.

So if your gaming just fine hang on. Also with Ivy Bridge on it's way out in April as well may also bring down Sandy prices a bit possibly.

This is the boat I'm in, I will just hold out a bit longer to see how the land lays thumb.gif

All of us want to have the best if its attainable. We should feel fortunate that this particular hobby allows us to have the best of whats available for a reasonable price. I'm also big into home theater and although I have a very respectable set-up (Pioneer Elite components/ Parasound amps/ Martin Logan speakers) there are amps out there that cost well over 50k and speakers well over 200k that would literally make my 10k system sound like crap. I have a really nice 60" Gt series Panasonic Plasma that was over 3k but it kills me to know that Panasonic makes another 60" plasma that cost over 50k that makes my screen look like 90's rear projection. Compared to other electronic genre's I would consider most all computer hardware very reasonable and have no complaints on price to be able to attain the best at such a small price.
