Been lurking via tapatalk for a while, decided to finally register.

I'm a light overclocker, I'll tinker with anything but don't search for the extreme limit. I've only really done two overclocked computers.

My first was when I found out the AMD 1090T would fit my Gigabyte AM2+ motherboard. That turned into a stable 4 GHz overclock with 8 megs of DDR2 and six (yes as in the number 6) sixty gig RAID 0 SSD's and a Sapphire 5750 video card. She screamed along quite nicely. This was all in an Ultra Microfly BX6 case. That lasted for a little while until I saw how my buddies I7 950 benchmarked the heck out of my setup. So it was upgrade time.

Out went the 1090T, the Gigabyte mATX mobo, the 8 gigs of OCZ platinum/titanium ram. In went the obvious, an I7 950. Along with it was 12 gigs of OCZ gold DDR3 1600, and my favorite, the Asus Rampage III Gene mobo. Didn't overclock anything though, barely got it running before life stepped in. So it sat under utilized and under used until October last year.

Life settled down, back to the computer tinkering. The supplied PSU that came withthe Microfly case gave up the ghost, so it was upgrade time. New case....a NZXT H2 Classic that I absolutely love. New PSU, an OCZ ZX 850. And a Corsair H80 cause I knew I'd be turning it up some. I stepped down to 5 of the previous 6 SSD's due to data port limitations as I have to leave one SATA II port for my BD ROM drive. The two SATA III ports are running two Samsung F1 1 tb drives in RAID 1 for storage of all my movies, music, pics, etc. Ran the computer stock until just a few weeks ago, and finally started tinkering again. Got the processor running rock solid stable at 4.0 GHz, ram at 1500ish speeds, all is well, processor idled at 33-35 and maxes at about 71 under prime. Pretty happy with it overall, though I'd like to step up to a pair of SLI'd 560's and eventually a 970, 980, or 990 processor once they come down a bit more. Want this computer to last at least a couple years and processor lines.

as for the old AMD RIG, Sold the 1090t and four of the 8 gigs of ram, kept everything else. Threw it all back in the Microfly case with the first processor I ever bought, an AMD Phenom 9850 BE and the one leftover SSD. Runs XP pro like a champ and is a perfect game computer for my 2 1/2 year old son.

So that's my computer side of me. I'm a car guy at heart otherwise. Used to own a twin turbo powered 99 Corvette (761 rwhp, 760 tq) but was forced to sell. Currently have a single turbo powered 93 Trans Am (767 rwhp, 712 tq) and a very cleanly done 99 Celica with an MR2 turbo motor swap (250 whp, 260 tq) that's decidedly NON-ricer, lol.

Hoping to learn a lot around here, maybe enough to push my 950 up a notch or two even. Thanks for having me!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will say that if it wasn't for my passion for my cars, I'd have a MUCH higher quality computer build going. I'm actually REALLY trying hard to stop myself from upgrading, because that new Sandy Bridge E is VERY enticing. But I'm trying to hold out for the next architecture or one more after that. Sadly my cars are both at points where upgrading or breakage is VERY expensive.

Right now my plans for the computer is to try and locate a couple of Scythe GT AP15's for the H80 because though the stock fans work well, it's LOUD, lol. And, given the price points I'm seeing now, I wouldn't rule out going with a couple of GTX 560's in SLI. My biggest thing recently has been Make MKV, Handbrake, and Blu-Rays. Just not getting the FPS I want on a 1080 encode though at 720 I'm running slightly better than real time.

REALLY liking this website. On the phone using Tapatalk it's decent, on the computer, it's awesome!

*Edit* Just found some pics of the old setup in the Microfly Case:

DSC_4750.jpg

I made an aluminum bracket to hold the 6 SSD's (had a 750 GB WD Cav Black in the stock cradle) and had a nice coolermaster Geminii S cooler that I had to mod the case to accomodate, but man did that thing work on the 1090T. not so much on the I7 950 though.

More pics here: http://s72.photobucket.com/albums/i177/Fastbird93/Computer%20Stuff/The%20Microfly%20Build/?start=all

Guess I need to get some pics of my H2 Classic setup huh? Note...there are NO LED fans on my H2. biggrin.gif
