Used GTX 580 DCII (fresh RMA for $400) or wait for GTX 670?

So I didn't want to hold on to my GTX 480 / space heater anymore and was ready for an upgrade so I sold my previous gtx 480 reference. Right now I'm using an old xfx 5850 until I buy a new card. I have a little more than $400 to spend and I'm wondering if it would be worth while to wait for the upcoming gtx 670 kepler card which is supposedly going to be released this April? Mainly I use my computer to play BF3, minecraft and Anno 2070, along with high end video editing and rendering in Premiere Pro with GPU acceleration. So CUDA is very important to me. The problem is I have a 2500k with an Asus Z68 v-pro board which only supports PCI gen 2. Would the increased cuda core count performance gain with the GTX 670 be hindered by a pci gen 2 connection? And it seems like I would be able to OC a basically brand new GTX 580 DC II to near gtx 670 speeds. And ugh another 35 days seems like a long time (and I dont think the cards will realistically be in great number at that point since nVidia has only recently confirmed the production start of the reference design).
Tell me what you guys think.

I would say wait because I feel that you can judge performance on the card when it comes out and decide what you want to do. I also feel that a PCIe 2.0 wont be a serious limitation. I feel that your limitation of a brand new card like that would drivers when the card is first released, but thankfully Nvidia is pretty good with their drivers so time will tell.

Both are great upgrades and I can say you would probably be happy with either card but I would wait and find the next best 580 if you were not happy with the 670 if I was you.

So you think I should just purchase a gtx 580 with a really nice after market cooler? I just can't really decide if I really need more power than a 580, and/or what the preformance increase with the 670 will be. If its only around 20% faster I could simply OC the dcii card and be just fine and not have to wait. What's your take?

As far as getting the aftermarket cooler, there is no other 580 I would go for other than the DCII. Thats without question one of the best quality cards out there for many reasons. (If you wanted the best temps though with a Nvidia card, you could do the watercooling mod, but thats a totally different subject)

If time is of the essence your right, overclocking the 580 would give you that little boost of performance, and if you dont want to wait thats totally the option to go for, but I am really anticipating the kepler chips, so I would wait, but thats just me. thumb.gif
