Question about my first gaming keyboard

i recently bought this Roccat Isku keyboard a month ago, i was looking
forward to use the thumbster buttons but when i go in counter strike into the the button configuration and try change an action button such as grenades to the thumbster button it doesnt change it just stays blank like a button hasnt been pressed yet but it works with any other keys, also
was wondering what exactly does the macro feature do on the keyboard is it just setting keys as shortcuts to open programs and such ?

i dont have any problems with the keyboard its a very sexy keyboard i just dont know much on using its features.

by the looks of it, seems like the board is roughly 100 bucks. I have to ask, why did you not just get a mechanical board?

Well macro keys are programmable to do set functions. So you activate the recorder and you do the keystrokes you want to bind to that macro key, then once thats complete pressing the key will repeat the strokes you programmed. Useful for mmo's I'd say thumbsupsmiley.png

 

You can also simply make the key a short-cut, lots of uses for them.

It may be that the game doesn't allow those buttons to be used, just like with many games (especially FPS) there are certain things you can't bind to certain functions e.g. binding the scroll wheel up/ down to firing as this would allow you to fire very fast with a rifle.

Macro functions allow you to assign key functions e.g. a block of text or an internet shortcut to the key, so when you press it you could automatically type out website address/ email or navigate to a certain page.

I agree with what Ratjack said also, mechanical keyboards are just so much better, I made the mistake of buying a Logitech G19 and now cannot return it.

because i already had the roccat kova+ mouse and mousepad , buying another brand would ruin the set and i think a mechanical board is abit to overboard for my use.

ok can it also record mouse movements or lets say you open the browser with your mouse while recording will the macro play and open the browser for you since i used the mouse to open up the browser not the keyboard.

Whilst some macro keyboards allow a mouse function (I know the G19 does), it will not navigate to an area of the screen if that's what you mean, it would merely be for say clicking a certain button of the mouse or scrolling, so you could for example in an FPS game, move with the mouse and perform all the actions such as fire, ADS, melee etc with the keyboard.

However you can set the macro to open a specific link, whether it be on the internet or a drive location on some keyboards (again this applies to the G19) so you would be able to, given the right keyboard, open a program as you mentioned, however it would not be done using the motion mouse, rather by opening the .exe file at the drive path you specified.

Hey there
i own 2 gaming keyboards, what u need to do is for example the key that is currently used and u want it to be assigned to the thumbster (whatever that is tongue.gif). go to the keyboard software and assign the key as a "macro" that u press once like a normal key and then the game will still think ur pressing the "N" key for example while u really use the thumbster...
i hope u get it if u have questions just feel free to ask thumb.gif

U can use macros for a keystroke for example ur playing WOW and u want to assign buffs... instead of pressing each one u can assign a key to press all of them automatically...
u should have a software with the keyboard
