The old saying goes, "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." If that is the case, Microsoft must feel very flattered right now. For the past several weeks, the company has been running the viral video campaign Smoked by Windows Phone to promote the Windows Phone OS. The videos show Microsoft rep Ben Rudolph completing tasks on his Windows Phone device faster that those on other smartphones. This week, the company took the next step and turned the viral marketing effort into a a full fledged online ad campaign

These Samsung "street" ads outdate the Microsoft campaign anyway, they've been around since the GSII. Flashing the phone in front of a line of people waiting in line to buy iPhones.. ring a bell?

Sounds like this site is trying to stir up some drama by saying Samsung is "copying something". Lame!

Well obviously they should be sued b/c comparing your device to another as a means of selling it is clearly a copyright violation, right?

Yea .... hummm... that was staged. Unless you're talking about an other commercial.

I don't own a smartphone (yet, don't see the need for one now) so I don't know what an iPhone can or can not do. But that women looks like one of the average smart phone users that actually doesn't have a clue what a smartphone can be used for. All they think of is "OOOOh, I'm going to pull this out every chance I get, put it on every table I sit at so everyone can see how up-to-date I am with current tech" and Angry Birds of course... My nephew (I think he's 12-13 years old, I'm not really a family guy but should be something like that) got an el cheapo smartphone for his good grades. Kid just turns the phone off (not locking it, really turning it completely off) when he isn't playing with it. Way to go ...

People are even amazed I can view emails on my phone (SE K770i, Good luck finding a brown phone, ain't getting rid of it anytime soon ^^ ) like there wasn't a life before smartphones and touchscreens. Granted I don't use the feature because it doesn't have WiFi.

Sorry for the rant but I get so frustrated with people flashing their smartphones around and they don't have a clue on how to use it (or worse: they don't need any of it's features).

Ah the smart phone wars.
Personally I could use a good note taking interface as a med student on rotations. Nothing worse then being grabbed by a resident with no pen/paper in hand and a new rattling of symptoms or lab tests. Worst feeling ever.

But. And a big but.

Most features would be useless.

What have I used my blackberry curve for in the last 2 years? Texting, phone calls, pandora, wikipedia, and a little medical program called Epocrates for random drug info.

Do I need a crazy smart phone? No.
Would I like a bit more? Sure.

Am I going to move to an iPhone anytime soon? No.
Why? Because they keep a strangle hold on software.

So I find Sam(e)song and Micro$oft butting heads to be wonderful. Bring it on. Go price war on each other. Give us 4000mah batteries. AMOLED. Solid wireless N recievers. Go go go! thumb.gif
