[gamersmint] Killzone 3 Multiplayer going Free-to-Play from next week

Sure to please all PS3 owners, Sony has decided to offer the Muliplayer component of Killzone 3 as a free download to all PSN members from next Tuesday onwards.

The announcement was made on the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast. All maps will be included in the package, but as with most Free-to-Play titles, there’s always a catch, and in this case, it’s a yet to be revealed level cap. There will be a limit to the rank which you can achieve, and the skills and weapons that you can unlock. Gamers need not worry though as they will be able to unlock the cap for a mere, $14.99. A small price to pay when you’re getting the core package for absolutely free. Besides, you’ll always be presented with a choice.

They better offer something to those who bought the game, it only seems fair that they should

Why should they?

This is the consequence of buying a game on release day.

By your logic, any time a game goes on sale the Publisher/Developer should refund every day one purchase to the say amount, because "it only seems fair that they should."

What about when WoW gets retired and becomes free 2 play, should everyone get their money back from the monthly payments?

Whilst we're discussing this issue, I'm going to hit up Valve and tell them they owe me a refund for TF2. Why should everyone get it for free when I purchased it originally?

This is what developers do in order to boost mid life sales. It happens with every product in life. You can't expect hand outs just because you bought the game on day one.

It doesn't just boost mid-life sales either, it boosts player count, which is super important. MAG did the same thing and it helped quite a lot.

good move on them, this seems like something that more games should do, infact why not do this for all fps games? It would curb piracy, garner a HUGE initial player base, encourage sales through quality and the people that do buy the game will stick around online for a long time.
