Nvidia GTX 550Ti Any Good? Should I Buy?

Thread Starter
Hi Guys

I was wondering if the 550ti's are any use, I'd be gaming on a 720p TV and prob not very much. I sold 2 4850's awhile ago as I hardly ever get to game now but find I miss having a half way decent graphics card, almost like not have a complete PC. So is the 550ti any good????

Cheers

550Ti is OK for 720p, but you'll definitely need something more powerful and with more VRAM to max out most modern games. For example BF3 uses more than 1GB of VRAM.

I'd say get a 560Ti (1.5GB) or a 7800 card when the 7800s are out

EDIT: a 6950 would also be an OK option but remember the 7000 series is a new technology and as the drivers mature the performance is only going to go up. This will be an advantage over the nVidia 500 series or AMD 6000 series.

It's ok, you'd be better off with a HD6850 though.

At 1280x720 its completely fine. If you're doing light gaming its about all you need and you'll be able to set most games to high settings if you have a decent CPU to back it up.

I'M BACK IN THE GAME hahhaha

Pulled the trigger on a ATI 6850, It feels good, now just have to till Wednesday. After looking at reviews last night I couldn't justify the madness that would be buying the 550ti just so I could have something now, The 6850 was actually cheaper but have to wait. Already got my hands on a copy of Crysis 2.

So anyone got a few ideas for the best games that came out in the last year that I missed?

Cheers
