[Bit-Tech] Aion goes free to play - Page 6

I played Aion on a free server back when the main game was still not free to play. You were able to download the game from ncsoft for free and then grab a launcher from a free server to run on that server. Was a nice game but i dont like wasting time in MMORPGs

As for the less and less people subbing, that seems to be impossible to know based on the recent news of subs which has to have been fairly new due to the first month free and the game not being live until the end of December. So again not sure where all of this info is coming from? If someone has a link that goes against the very recent release of seemingly high early sub numbers that shows a sharp decline I would like to see it. Otherwise I will just have to assume this is just an assumption based on what some "best MMO Guilds" have done.

It all depends on how hardcore you play your games. SWTOR is definitely not design for hardcore, no life, gamers like myself. People finished all the content fast, then got bored. I believe they said the next content patch is still months away, so it could pull back subs then, but GW2 will be out... likely followed by Diablo 3 shortly after.

I think all sub based MMOs will be hurting later this year since pretty much everyone will be playing 1 of those 2 games, if not both. If you enjoy SWTOR, keep playing, as you said.. play games for yourself, not for others.

Yeah maybe my server is just a bit slower on the content, as I don't believe anyone has cleared hard mode 16 man ev and kp let alone make ANY ground on nightmare difficulty. As for the next major content patch, as far as I have heard is just around the corner in March, with 1.1.5 going live soon I believe. Don't get me wrong I know it needs a lot of work still but I would be shocked to see it go f2p itself any time soon.

May just have to take another look at Aion as it never was anything I would have paid to play before, but f2p is much more approachable.

Anyone else hate the TERA combat system? It feels so clunky - even on warriors you get rooted in place for 0.5s every time you auto attack.
Don't see how it'll succeed if it's sub based.

GW2 will pull tons of casual gamers that don't want to have to play frequently throughout the month to get their moneys worth, they can just play on weekends and still feel like it's money well spent.. because they already bought the game.

Aion going F2P will give people something to do until GW2, but I doubt many people will stick around once GW2 releases.

That's quite a turnaround, though it does raise the question of what the game's revenue picture looked like before the change.

more like MMO games are forced to change to free2play due to low subscribers. So wow will change to F2P once their subscription base starts to dwindle. So yes, F2P may make money but that's because mmo games like DC universe never made any money to begin with, so any increase will look AWESOME.

If Guild Wars 2 is going to be similar to the original Guild Wars I can't imagine many people liking it. One of the things I loved about World of Warcraft was the open nature of it, you could be levelling in one area and bump into members of another faction who start attacking you or end up bumping into members of the same faction who could help you with a hard quest. Guild Wars just instanced everything so you would be alone unless you made a party before which I always thought sucked.

Well I don't believe there is straight up open world PvP in GW2 since there is only the 1 faction. But from all the video's being release from the press beta last weekend it seems like the game is very very large and open ended. Press sites are going nuts over how big the game world is and how much is to explore and what not. Not having played the game myself, I also thought I heard the only instanced parts of the game are the parts that are your personal story quest.

I would really check out this link: Guild Wars 2 - Mass Info (MMO-Champion) It'll really make you see what GW2 is turning out to be. My favorite thing being the Dynamic Event system! biggrin.gif

GW2 has changed so many things from GW1 that you can essentially call it a different game altogether.

Wow...Might give this a try and see whats new. I just got back in to Rift, and the amount of content they added is insane. So much more to do and the server im on is always full. Hopefully Aion is the same way. Need something before GW2. Played Swtor till about 2 weeks ago. Not fun anymore. Ran out of things to do, All the classes seem to blend together. Not a big difference between classes and I cant get passed the horrible 2004 graphics.

I remember playing the Aion Beta and telling all my friends how amazing it was. They all played WoW and so did I and I wanted to try something new. The graphics were amazing but just the grindfest associated with it was too much for me. WoW is just much more polished and fluid in terms of gameplay than any MMO out now. The competitiveness that surrounds PvP is still amazing. People currently are making hundreds if not thousands of dollars for selling Arena or Rated Battleground rating to other players. The NAO tournament that was streamed live on twitch.tv was also pretty huge. It shows that even with the negativity that players complain about in terms of balance, it still is the best end-game MMO. The various players that are making money off streaming WoW and make money off instructional videos show that WoW is still a very good game and it will be hard for another MMO to beat it.

Until an MMO comes out with a totally innovative idea for MMO's I really don't think anything will beat WoW. The only MMO I am really looking forward to is Guild Wars 2. Hopefully Mists of Pandaria is good so WoW can stay alive. They are going to focus more on PvP rather than PvE with an expansion end raid-boss type expansion. If they do it right and somehow manage to balance the Monk with the other classes (Which took a while for deathknights when they were released) and bring back the world PvP that vanilla and BC players miss, I think it'll do great.
