[Bit-Tech] Aion goes free to play - Page 7

Aion, is a game, I still play a LOT.

This is a very grindy and frustrating game if you like to have the best gear.

There is barely any fair PVP, but I enjoy the game because it's rarely rewarding... interesting?

No, I play a gimpled class and when I get a kill it feels amazing...I had to work hard for it.

I don't know if this game is for everyone, but I'd like to have it re-populated (despite what I just posted).

I got Aion at release because I was looking for an alternative to WoW since my brother got banned for no good reason (apparently there was some 3rd party software on his computer that they didn't approve of... Hours and hours wasted on that account.). I liked the game, I thought it was pretty damn cool, had a much better look to it than WoW, but it's a grind fest, and subsequently it was LOADED with bots. I think there were more bots than people playing that game. I probably wouldn't go back to it even if it was F2P, just not enough people play it.

Blizzard is a shell of what they used to be. DIII looks like its about to tank with the new gaming crowd...They need to do better than the next chunk of the game every decade or so...

Played AION at launch, it was a flop from the get-go. I took a break from WoW to go play AION with a few friends and we enjoyed it at first, but it just became way too much of a grind. You'd literally have to be sitting at your computer for an absurd amount of time or botting to even get close to achieving level 50. Once you hit 50, literally the only thing to do was raid castles in that outer space environment, which sounds like fun, but in reality it was absolutely horrible and repetitive, and if you didn't have a top of the line gaming rig, you were staring at the floor the entire time.

There was just absolutely no content for a long time, and it was a very imbalanced game. The casters were leagues stronger than the melee. I haven't played the expansion, but making it F2P was probably a good choice on their part. This is kind of funny I saw this considering I was thinking just yesterday if AION even has an active subscription base.

It's coming? They're releasing a new expansion relatively soon, so no, it's not coming. If it does, it will not be anytime soon.. that's for sure. I think it's pretty safe to say Blizzard will put their company itself on the line to ensure WoW never goes F2P. Either that, or they'll simply have to release a game that will draw avid WoW players away from WoW.

WoW going free 2 play would be a massive increase in profits due to cash shops.

Every MMO out there that went F2P had a near 500% increase in profits from adding a cash shop...

Wow is old and dusty, and had about 2-3 Million actual players left; despite what they claim...IT is dying..if they want one last huge cash grab from it, they'd be incredibly smart to make it F2P when it hits 1 Million users, which I could see by 2013 / 2014. Add in a cash shop for rare stuff and bam, they'll be making as much money as the ywere in the prime of WoW, if not more.

Did you just make up your own statistics on the spot, or what?

It had 10.2 million subscribers as of Feb 2012. And unlike you, I didn't pull that number out of nowhere:

Umm....that was a rather depressing read frown.gif (you would make a terrible salesman tongue.gif)

Inflated numbers.

Blizzard lost -half- of those, especially after the China debacle.

I'm counting US & UK Subscribers only. Asian ones are all bots, studies have shown.
