On the Crosshair V, under full load with Extreme LLC it gets a much more steady 1.64v and doesn't seem to vary much. Perhaps that's why it's about 7C hotter.
I have some IC7 Diamond TIM coming in the mail, I'm gonna try replacing my AS5 with that and see if it makes a difference.
Yeah no joke, I've considered it but it's in my girl's rig..
Please elaborate, I'm not sure what you're getting at...
Here's a pic of the inside of my machine for reference.

Top fan and rear fan are exhaust, heatsink fans are push/pull towards the back, everything else (front, side and bottom) blows in.

just an advice/tip

remove your rear fan AND the rear grill. leave it open and you will recognize a significant temp drop, no doubt!

there are 2-3 pictures from peeps that removed the grill. it is worth it and helps to push the stagnated air (in your case) out of your case

Thanks, I'll try this, I had wondered if just that one small rear fan was enough to get the air moving through that big heatsink out of the case.

I can't remove the grill only because I don't have any tools beyond a hammer and pliers....no dremel, yeah.

Thanks everyone else for the advice too. Also, my components bench about the same as they did in my other board.

Update:

I found some wire cutters and used those on the joints to remove my fan grill.

Temps with the grill and fan on were 53C SMP folding on 5 cores, and GPU folding on the other.

Without the fan, with the grill on, they were about the same- 52c~53c

With the grill off and no fan they were 50c

With the grill off and a fan they're currently 47~48C.

I also moved the Rosewill red LED fans off the heatsink and into the rear/bottom, and put the Thermaltake fans the heatsink came with on it. One way or another I dropped my folding temps 5C. Hopefully when I get some IC7 paste for the heatsink they will drop more.

Thanks justanewguy, rep given.

To anyone still watching this thread;

I ended up getting some IC7 thermal paste, a Delta AFB1212GHE-CF00 240cfm fan, and 2x Scythe Ultra Kaze 133cfm.

Just waiting for it all to get here but I'm putting the Ultra Kaze's on my heatsink, to replace the stock Thermaltake ~50cfm fans, and the super high flow Delta fan as my rear exhaust to replace a dubious Rosewill 74cfm fan (feels more like 40cfm to me). Once everything is installed I'll update and post the temp difference under load.
