BF3 also needs DX10 which I don't think wine even supports. Plus the game launches though the browser.

Running any windows program in Linux is a joke. I wouldn't even bother trying to play BF3 in Linux because even if you do get it to work SOMETHING will go wrong with it. Plain and simple. I hate to be that negative person but you're going to drive yourself crazy if you even try.

The only reason BF3 won't work is because it requires at minimum DX10. And currently the only support we have is for DX9. Other than that, you can run plenty of Windows programs without a single problem whatsoever. Also, the only programs you would NEED to use from Windows on Linux are games. Other than games Linux has programs that are equal or greater than their Windows Counterparts.

You are the negative person indeed, and that kind of attitude is what probably lead you to your problems. When a problem arises you need to learn to cool down, step back, and look at what the problem is. In most cases the answer is right in front of you.

We're talking more than just free in terms of costs but free as in control and as freedom. The only limits really with Linux are your time and abilities. With windows that is not the case.

Don't listen to this guy... 126 posts and 0 rep. With an attitude like he/she is displaying, its no wonder. I don't understand why trolls like this come from people who only are interested in windows but come to the linux forums. Close minded and sad, sir/ma'am.

I didn't want my post to come off as trolling. But I really don't think Linux is worth the time. There always seems to e something wrong with a windows program in Linux and I can only imagine the troubles that come along with BF3. I think it's worth it to just windows. And I am by no means a fan boy.

Maybe you need to give it an honest try and not a " oh I installed it and don't like it " try. And more seriously, as I said before, the only programs you would need from Windows on Linux is the games. Other than that, there's not one single piece of software you need from Windows. Linux counterparts are often equal to or better than the Windows counterparts.
