1.I have this cpu but i dont understand what the amd turbo boost is? it is set to auto boost in the bios.
But i keep reading this cpu o.c itself to 3.4ghz but ive never seen it happen ive stressed it and it always stays at 3.0ghz am i not understanding it right?

2.i unlocked all 6 cores for about an hour when i first got it but then re-locked it to 4 as i was told its not a good idea with my motherboard
http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A78LM_LX_V2/
my second question is whats the worst that could happen if i did leave it unlocked would my mobo burn out or something?

thanks in advance

AMD's Turbo Core tech basically increases the clock speed when less than all the cores are being loaded. If you want to see it in action open up CPU-Z and run a single-core version of Cinebench 10 or 11.5. Since your motherboard supports 125W CPUs it should be safe to unlock your 960T but you might be limited in overclocking since it has no VRM cooling. I have no personal experience with that board though so someone who owns it with a 960T or 125W CPU might be able to shed more light than I could.

Turbo core only boosts it when your using single thread applications. Most of the time it only boosts for a second or two. I have never seen my x6 1100T boost for longer than one second while loading programs.

As for the core unlocker, I would do it. Your gaining two more cores for free. Just dont overclock witht that motherboard.

Correct, unlocking should be safe but overclocking would be hard and slightly dangerous without VRM cooling.
