Looking for tubing & coolant advice

Thread Starter
Two questions:

1) I've decided on 1/2" ID tubing, but what type of tubing should I look for? I'm willing to fork out for Tygon, but do I want the anti-microbial, chemical resistant or other type? I read "plasticizer" tubing has caused some problems for some people.

2) Coolant. It looks like standard distilled water with a few drops of Nuke-PHN in it looks to be the best, with a silver kill coil in the reservoir. What about Swiftech HydrX or EK's Ekoolant? Are those good choices too?

Thanks.

1. Good choice of tube sizing. 1/2 ID is what I have and I am very happy with it. Plasticizer with tubing is common but is not know to actually cause problems except making the inside of the tubing have a white color. I would recommend Primochill - I heard they fixed the plasticizing problem and their customer service is second-to-none.

2. You were right in your first sentence. Use distill water with PT nuke or a silver coil. DO NOT use coolant. You will spend $20 for liquid that will most likely clog your blocks. Google what coolant has done to blocks in the past, the pictures are scary.

For 1/2ID tubing you'd want a 3/4OD, any smaller and it'll kink like no tomorrow, imo 3/8ID 5/8OD is great, doesn't look bulky and insane bend radius. All tygon tubing will cloud, Primochill use to never cloud on me but people say the latest batches have plasticizer issues but the new batch I bought a few weeks ago is still running clear.

Coolant doesn't clog blocks, it just dyes the plasticizer which gets trapped in your blocks, only instance the coolant actually clogs up anything is if it chemically breaks down but that's rare. Distilled + pt nuke is just fine but I'd avoid the silver coil.

Alright, I'll take a look at Primochill tubing as well, thanks. So no coolant? But why would EK make Ekoolant if it would clog their blocks? Maybe the Ekoolant and Swiftech HydrX are additives - I probably thought they were straight coolant when they weren't.

Ekoolant is coolant not additive, you shouldn't add any more liquid to it unless you're just topping off the res you're fine with distilled instead of buying another bottle just for a few ml.

Oh I see, so the supposed clogging is from the coolant mixing with the plasticizer then making its way to the block? Interesting. I was tempted by EK's Ekoolant clear as you'd think with the same company also making blocks, there wouldn't be any problems.

Ek coolants clear works fine its a glycol based Premixed liquid that has no problems what so ever ...
