OS 9 had plenty of Viruses back when it had a much smaller market-share. Today, with over 50 Million users, there's still not a single Virus for OSX. That market-share argument is a bit silly. If Ubuntu had 90% market-share, would it too be regularly exploited as easily as Windows is? Of course not.

Malware is just another term for Virus. Virus is not used anymore like it was. They have catagorized all the baddies now and Apple took advantage of that. Also, your wrong about not being any viruses in the past 12 year for OSX. Does not most malware, spyware, fruadware, etc make a computer run slow, act funny, freeze, currupt files, and etc. Any baddie that causes a computer to mis-function (AKA not work right) is a virus. I seen spyware/malware on Apple PC that made the system completely un-usable.

I bet you are one of those Apple fanboys that think Apple is not a PC, when it is...

Sorry, to bust your Bubble, but I work with Ubuntu server and several other Linux servers and they are not as secure as you may think. The desktop version of Ubuntu only seems secured, because it is useless and the percentage of users that use it, is so low it's not worth the time to create a baddie for and attack it...

Apple is just taking advantage of there customers by making it seem like the word Virus is a singler entity when it's not. Virus is the tree where most of the baddie branches spring from.

You're making a lot of assumptions there. You know what they say about people who make assumptions...

I'm sorry you're still incapable of comprehending how a Virus and Trojan are two different types of infections. Hopefully, some day you'll learn.

Here is the deal poopa

The technical classification of whether an infection is an honest to goodness virus, trojan, or worm is unimportant to the vast majority of users.

The fact is most osx users believe themselves to be invulnerable to any sort of infection and will happily click anything that pops up due to this belief.

Right... you're pissing me off now.

VIRUS, as a term, is used to cover the WHOLE GAMUT of computer infections; it is NO LONGER - and has not been for quite some time - used in the pedantic and incorrect way that you wish to use it.

Some day I will learn, eh? I have been in front of one computer or another since before you were born.

Please... remove your head from your backside and grow up! Bandying insults gets you nowhere; insulting peoples intelligence will win you no points, kudos or friends.

I note that you do not seem capable of responding to points raised but, rather, you rebutt with flame-bait and invective.

You sir, are an ass.

You can't even quote an idiom correctly... "You know what they say about people who make assumptions... [sic]". It is assume.... not assumption.

yeah, anecdotal information is useless in this thread. I've had macs since 2006 with no anti virus software without problems. I worked in a uni computer store for two years and have only seen 3 macs infected with something, which was user installed in the end. I cant even count how many Windows machines come in. I could maybe ask our NOC to get me some numbers on network blocks of windows machines vs. os x.

I work in an IT for a uni and even with Forefront Endpoint 2010 (based on MSE technology) we still get the occasional call for malware. and that's only with 120 users. rolleyes.gif

LIES! Totally kidding, I work for a very large financial institution. We lock people's accounts when blacklisted IPs try to hijack accounts (think Russian IPs logging in to a US brokerage account where the account owner's IP has always been in the US). Most of the time the caller has a mac, no joke. I am so tired of arguing with people about their macs dont get viruses....
