Less money on RAM, more money on CPU/GPU, or a good Air Cooler for overclocking the CPU (I'm not a fan of sealed water coolers).

On the note of CPU's you can buy better, but that Phenom II will be more than enough overclocked if you can get it significantly cheaper than an i5 2500k.

I also doubt a 1000w PSU would even be neccessary.

8Gb is the magic number I've been constantly hearing, what I want is to have my browser open and still have operations go on in the background without the slowdowns and lock-ups. As I said before I'm locked into the 990fx chipset so that is why I picked the Phenom. The benchmarks I've seen and verticals I've read shows that it's clocked higher that the 6 core, and it also performs just as well for a cheaper price. They want $180 for the 6 core, and $160 for the 4.

Let me ask you a question,In my mobo manual it says you can install 1,3,and 4gb of UN-buffered dual channel memory up to 32GB. If I put in a third stick, will that make it a triple channel, thus tripling my speed?

EDIT:
didnt see u already had the mobo.

From what I've read and seen,it's on par with the 6 core for a lesser price.

Why are you going from a Phenom II X4 945 to a 980 BE? You're essentially paying for an overclocked version of your current CPU.

BF3 is impossible to play on 1080p Ultra with a single GPU, my 7970 @ 1250/1750 isn't enough. This weekend I even tried a 6990+6970 trifire-setup and it was still unplayable on 1080p Ultra because of microstutter. Just buy a card that fits your needs and don't worry about graphical settings, the difference between Medium and Ultra in todays games is barely noticeable anyway.

Really? Plays pretty well on Ultra over here.

At the time I really didn't know what "locked" meant when it came to CPUs. I'm limited because it is locked at 3GHZ.

I understand and I agree with you, I've heard and personally experienced this. The games I do play are set mid-range but do to other low end hardware, I get crappy detail. For example, I've played Crysis about 3 times and never new they had flashlights on in the first mission until I saw a Youtube gameplay with a decent card (GTX 570). Also when I'm playing fallout, textures look basic and blurred. People and object just "pop" into view when I get close to them. I know I should be able to see this objects and people well before I get to them.

I know different people have different levels of standards, but can you really see a big difference between lets say 40 and 60 fps? I only asked because I seen on a few videos that anything above 30 is good.

There is even a noticeable difference between 90 and 120 fps for me, but that is not common, most people will notice 40 to 60 fps and 60 to 120 fps.

Whats noticable isnt differences between 90 and 120 Hz, but inconsistencies in framerates. If you have a card that is powerfull enough to do 120 Hz avg, its likely that the framerate doesnt change as much as a card that has a 60 fps avg. In reality 60 fps is near the limitation of our perception. For midrange cards, V-sync can both make motion smoother and take away screen tearing by syncing the framerate to the monitor's refresh rate.

As for the OP, you should OC from the getgo, since its pretty safe these days and is a free performance upgrade. However, Im not sure how much more your factory OC'd card can take.
