Gigabyte X58 UD5 VS Gigabyte GA-X58A-OC

Thread Starter
As the title says, I have an option to get a cheap X58A OC and want to know from anyone if you think this is a worthwhile upgrade since I want to squeeze every last ounce from my 990x and also, could anyone tell me if the spacing of the PCI-E slots is better than on the UD5 board?

The reason I ask the latter is, every crossfire or sli setup on my current UD5 board has run into temp problems due to them being so close together. When comparing online pictures it seems there is better spacing, but I want to be 100% sure.

Thanks in advance.

yes the X58A-OC is a better board for OCing, the issue is that if you aren't doing suzbero the gains are pretty small.

PCI-E spacing shodul be a bit better, the 16x slots are very spaced out, the 8x slots follow standard 4-way spacing.

Check out the review linked in my signature for some good images of the PCIE spacing, it's spread out much better than UD5/UD7

Plus since it's cheap you could probably make most of your cash back by selling the UD5, and then you'd own a piece of motherboard history biggrin.gif

Thanks for the input and the link to a review, the spacing definitely looks better to me and I was hoping to get some money back from selling my UD5 board too.

Gonna go buy one now, right after I rep you both. thumb.gif

Damn it, just bought one now, lol.

I am looking forward to filling my phantom case once more. I have my main rig in a slightly battered Zalman case right now.

Once I get that fitted I might finally crack and buy one or two 7970's.

I switched from UD7 r1 to OC and I don't regret it, not a bit! smile.gif I just love it, some could say it's obsolete but just at looking at it, all these new x79/z68 youngsters look cheapish and skinny comparing to OC! thumb.gif

you'll love it, it looks just as good if not better in person, the lights are a nice touch, at least on the north bridge.
