Low GPU Usage in Crysis Warhead

Thread Starter
i jsut installed crysis warhead and its pretty much unplayable, my framerate regularly drops to 16 fps and when it does my GPU usage drops to 48%. I have never seen it go above 87% GPU usage i don't think its a CPU bottleneck CPU usage never goes past 46%, this is the only game it is happening in i ran BC2 right after and GPU usage was 96-98% constantly. I am about to reinstall AMD drivers and see if that fixes it.

after reinstalling the drivers it is more than double the performance it was before now the lowest usage is 87% and average is 96%.

Crysis 1 / Warhead only run on 1/2 cores and is badly optimized.

I Think you are experiencing a BIG CPU Bottleneck in this game.

Even my Q9650 @ 4.0ghz had trouble, now my 2500k @ 4.5ghz finnaly does the job and gives 100% gpu utilization in any game.

I misread your sig rig it appears, have you tried overclocking your processor more? That could help, to check if it's a CPU Bottleneck I'd advise running the task managers performance monitor while you play and alt tab, if the first two cores are maxed out or close to it, it could be a CPU bottleneck. You can try to set affinity to the last 2 cores and see if that alleviates it as well.

you sure? i can max out bad company 2 with 99% usage constantly.

i got 2 monitors and i did leave performance monitor open and it barely even touched my CPU it topped out at 46% usage. and i don't want to push my MoBo too much it doesn't have any MOSFET cooling.

Do you have all of the updates for the game? You shouldn't have a problem with MOSFET cooling, I run a P35 neo with a tiny northbridge cooler, and an even smaller southbridge and that does it for heatsinks on the mainboard, as long as you don't push it really far, Try 3.4 GHz since that should be easily achievable and see if the performance goes up. Your CPU Voltage seems to be a bit high for a low overclock like that, is that due to the unlock? You can probably push it higher on that voltage without changing any other voltages.

Yes i have the only update for it, well one guy on here was like ZOMG NO MOSFET COOLING= BIG NUKE BOMB he is convinced my board is borderline usable without mosfet cooling. anyway i cant get 3.4GHz 3.12 is the highest i can get with my CPU. And intel has significantly better mosfets compared to AMD.

and the board has crap voltage control i set it to 1.36V but it goes anywhere from 1.29V to 1.45V so... plus considering i unlocked the 4th core I'd say I'm pretty lucky the average OC for my CPU is 3GHz.. And no the extra core can run flawless on stock voltages till i OC past 2.8GHz then it need 1.36V (the stock is 1.32V)

The only time I've heard of mosfets exploding are at insane speeds and voltages, I'm not that familiar with AMD boards but is there a power saving option that's changing your voltage on the fly? I know mine is set to 1.4V right now and idle runs 1.43V, and 1.38 Under load, your fluctuations are a bit more radical though, maybe double check on that, that could be whats causing crysis to lag

it cant be the voltage because crysis warhead is the only game that does this The original crysis runs flawless maxed. yes amd has CnQ (cool n Quiet) it drops the cpu clocks and voltages when idle i decided to revert to stock everything except i unlocked my 4th core but even on stock voltage its stable. it runs the same so it must be some sort of game bug.
