And in a moment of weakness I bought it. tongue.gif Woo hooo tax return ftw. Also got an Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3 board, 8 gigs ram and a hyper 212 hsf. The mobo had good reviews so I hope its a good one.
I feel so guilty. biggrin.gif

Good buy as long as you weren't going from 2600k to 2700k, jk. The 2700k is an awesome CPU. So why feel guilty, For one IVY isn't going to be out for awhile. 2700 with HT is still future proof and a very fast CPU (possible rumor, but I've heard they were binned higher then 2600k,, but I don't think so). So don't feel guilty, OC that bad boy and enjoy, just keep all the boxes and if IVY turns out to be too hard to resist then sell of the 2700k for $225 and buy an IVY and consider the $100 loss as a rental fee.

Enjoy the impulse, I just bought a 2nd 7970 for sake of buying one, Do I regret it,, hell no. Those things fly..

PS if you want to see impulse, with my tax return, Im turning my PC into a COMPLETE flight sim, with a recreated twin engine cockpit. These are used in flight schools and at the end, you learn how to fly a plane.. Pretty cool but not cheap..

This was your blank statement.
Yeah my thoughts exactly, I was going to say this. A 212 might be good for 4.2...4.4ghz? Then you'll be stopping Prime95 cause your scared of seeing 85C+ temps.

Just saying it's not 100% true. You can achieve very nice overclocks with a 212 plus with the right setup. I'm sure at some point when I have everything worked out I will be pushing to or past 1.4v.

I will agree tho if it's a stock 212 then 4.4 -4.6 would be max unless you have a good chip that can run low voltages at a very nice clock speeds.

Have fun with your new setup! This is what i considering to do if i manage to sell my current setup. Get a z68 and 2600k and when ivy comes out, if it overclocks better, i ll sell it and get the ivy for some money loss. I cant stand almost two months without a pc rolleyes.gif

And if it's that great then sell off the 2700k and buy one. Thats what I'm going to do as well. We will also have to see if those benches prove true. If so then I find it funny when AMD did the same thing with there FX lineup. People were pissed at little to no improvment at all. All the test data i've read shows IVY doesn't bring alot to the table as far as improvments over the Sandy Bridge. With a modest 10-15% but we're suppose to drool over that.

I believe your not even looking at the key points and reasoning why they are better.
For me, im looking at the lower power consumption.
The 200% integrated graphics processing increase.
Its only a 20% increase in general every day computing. Most people that do general everyday computing wont get these processors for years or will get a laptop with one where integrated graphics will be amazingly better than the old ones.

I said it would be better to wait since the processors will be better(by any margin, doesnt really matter how much) and cost the same price. Thats why I am going to wait. More performance, same price.

PS - way better for overclocking.

final reason: 7GHz.

final reason: 7GHz.

7.0 GHz would be awesome, i'll believe that when I see it. And ya people have their reasons for waiting as well, sorry if it appeared I was bashing the product, when in fact it's going to be great cpu, but at the same time it's coming after an already great CPU (Sandy Bridge) and the 10-15% is for everyday users who don't use the on board GPU and the power consumption might save $10 a year on an electricity bill. As for price, unless Intel has changed the CPU will probably be at its highest when the chip comes out because the only real completion Intel has at the moment is with itself. When people say the prices will be the same, they will be, but at regular pricing and not the current on sale pricing.

So personal choice on the whole waiting debate, I'll still tell people if they find a 2600/2700k for a really good price to go for it. Myself I bought a brand new unlocked 2600k 3 weeks ago for $280. That was an easy choice to make. If IVY proves to be that much better with 7.0 GHz OC's like you stated then i'll switch.

I like this debate. They already showed proof of 7ghz, and power consumption without a power hog pcie video card you can have such a smaller psu and if your coming from an older socket like me, you dont need nearly as big a power supply which would save alot more than 10 dollars a year if your participating in folding@home. Also I think around black friday we should see some ivy bridge sale prices that compete with sandy bridge sale prices which would be just as nicely priced. 280 for a sb is still too much in my opinion, i bought my q9550 for $170 on sale for 100 bucks off at micro center a few years ago. If they have a nice sale like that for ivy bridge its definitely worth the wait.
i guess what it comes down to is if you can wait and if your willing to wait for that nice price on an awesome cpu. As we both agree it will be better and I dont see them dropping the SB prices so in turn I feel the logical thing to do would be to wait for IB.
