[Build Log] Switch 810 + WC noob = ? - Page 3

Small update. Wish I had screenies to compare to, as far as temps and everything. Got my system up and running completely, though I broke something somehow lol.

First, 2500K testing. On my H70, I was only pushing 1.33V and had a stable 4.3GHz 24/7, with idle cores between 33C-40C, load temps around 65C in BF3, and 75C stress testing. I pushed voltage to 1.5V to have some fun and see how high I could go (have the new overclockers warranty, why the hell not). First off, my ambient is about 25C. I was idling between 27C-30C. Overclock hit 5200MHz, didn't touch bus speed. Did some quick testing at max memory in IBT, 5 passes, and with pull fans at 50% highest core hit 76C. I had to drop it to an even 5000 for 3dmark11 testing though. Haven't done any Prime yet. I might be changing around my fan config, or just go full push/pull.

I then tested my 6950. Previous max stable clock for benching was 1005MHz core and 1530MHz ram, with the sliders in Afterburner maxed. Temps with the Twin Frozr III cooler idled anywhere between 35C-39C, and at load hit between 72C-75C in 3dmark11 and BF3, and about 80C under OCCT. Under water, at exact same settings, I hit OCCT and 3dmark11 stable 1045MHz core and 1550MHz ram. Wasn't expecting more on the ram as it was just air cooled with heatsinks, and I started to get performance degradation past 1550 due to unstable ram clocks and the memory bus error correction kicking in.

I ran maybe 10 3dmark11 tests, best score here. Let OCCT loop for an hour. Temps never went above 44C, i was amazed at the 30-35C degree drop. I wasn't monitoring VRM or RAM temps though. Maybe that was my mistake, but nothing felt hot when I touched the heatsinks. Fan controller came with temp sensors, not sure how accurate they are, but I hadn't gotten around to putting a few of them in. Anyway, I decided to do a second run of OCCT while I stressed CPU, to get an idea of the combined temps. Left the room to play with my kiddos. Came back about 20 minutes later to a blank screen

After a couple hours of diagnosing, switching components, etc., I concluded that I killed my 6950. Not sure what happened, there is no sign of heat or electrical damage anywhere on the card, burn marks, nada. It simply won't let any system I plug it into, boot. Tested my board and power supply with other components, they're fine. Threw the 6950 into my sons system, no power on. Fans pulse and the system stays off.

I haz a sad... but my girl bought me a 7970. I'll report some new performance numbers when I get it in. Also want to grab either some paracord of the right colors, or go MDPCX. Toying with a couple lighting ideas, we shall see. First the rig needs to be in working order lol, Intel HD 3000 graphics is only good for... movies and bejeweled rolleyes.gif

Ouch, that sucks about the 6950, I guess I'll have to be really careful when I use a universal block. Oh well, atleast you got a 7970 biggrin.gif
Actually, the online shop I always go to (PC Case Gear) added a Bitspower 580 Lightning waterblock the other day! Which means that they might make a waterblock for a 7970 Lightning eventually.. smile.gif

Got a Gigabyte Windforce 7950 in, overclocked to 1050/1400 without touching voltages. Going to wait til next week when I get copper spacer and extra heatsinks for vrm's before I push farther. Nice looking card

well it's been a week, and no update lol :/ work is kicking me right in the scrotum.

I decided to switch out my 7950 for a GTX680, which should be here in the next couple days. Looking forward to updating this and putting up some numbers, finally thumb.gif
