Games my laptop can run?

Asus G60VX

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M

What games can I play? Please suggest some good ones! smile.gif
I like any genre game! thumb.gif

I'm still waiting for kepler and ivy bridge to be released so I can finally build my first TRUE gaming rig!

(I paid $1.5k for this "gaming" laptop from bestbuy, let's just say I learned my lesson on buying laptops. Would've built a gaming desktop with that money but didn't know any better tongue.gif)

Jesus 1.5k? Did you buy it when it was brand new on the market? I've got the G72 (better processor slighty, and 2gb more ram, paid 1k.) and I can run anything I want (not necessarily maxed of course) except GTA IV, that just refuses to run well, no matter the settings. I can max it, or put it on the lowest settings and the frame rate stays in the teens. So basically, with a bit of tweaking on setting, you SHOULD be able to run pretty much anything.

What tweaking can I do? Running WoW/LoL makes the GPU temperature to rise up to 97°C! That's just crazy so I'm afraid to run anything redface.gif

That's unfortunately the bane of laptop gaming. Make sure you clean the thing regularly of dust. Take the bottom covers off and blow them out with an air can. If you feel comfortable with doing it, take the heatsink off the GPU and apply some new thermal paste (I did this on my laptop and it definitely helped.). If you haven't done either of these things in the 3-4 years you've had the laptop, you really should at the bare minimum clear the dust out.

Another minor solution is to invest in a decent cooling pad for it, they can actually help you.

As for tweaks, your GPU is decent enough, but the major hindrance in your case is the dual-core. Make sure you turn off any form of AA (except on older games where you can handle it) and turn down shadows. SSAO, Depth of Field, Motion Blur, all those will hurt your frame rate on your laptop. WoW really doesn't need much, I used to raid on my old hp craptop that had onboard video and a terrible AMD dual-core, just play with the settings till you get a decent frame-rate.

That is a pretty decent gaming laptop. I can of recommend the obvious Valve games, will run great if you have not already been playing them on the laptop. Skyrim Could run at decent settings, same goes for Fallout 3, and New Vegas. I really can't think of specific games that you can run because your computer has not gotten to the point where it can't run new games that well with the exception of games like BF3, and Metro I guess. With a semi low resolution like 1280x720, and no filters, just start fiddling around with the texture, shadow ect settings until you find the right performance/visual balance you like.

Edit : Also if your having heat issues, have you tried doing repasting of thermal compound on both cpu, I am assuming that a warranty that you had is expired, and there are plenty of guides or people on OCN willing to help.

Pretty much this, although I've played both BF3 and Metro on my G72 which is only a tad better than his with 30+fps, just takes some tweaking of the settings.

I'll just live with it until I build my rig, CS:S/TF2/WoW/LoL works fine with my laptop so I'll just continue playing those games.

Thanks for all your replies!thumb.gif
