" http://forums.storagereview.com/index.php/topic/31292-plextor-px-m3p-ssd-review-discussion/ I guess it like trying to cross flash Firmware from 1 company to another using the same controllers and NAND
The M3s vs. M3p is more important at 128GB. It appears that the 128GB version of the M3P uses 32gbit devices than the M3s, which accounts for most of the performance increase. The M3P 128GB hits 350MB/s sequential writes while the 128GB M3S hits about 210MB/s. At 256GB they're practically the same. The 64GB M3S probably uses 32gbit devices. some Toggle NAND comes in 32gbit flavors which means you need more of them to hit a given capacity level. So it costs more, but you get more NAND devices to exploit in parallel.

According to the review quoted above, the drive uses 16GB NAND chips as 128 = 8 times 16.smile.gif

When I was making my decision on which to buy, I analyzed tons of Japanese and Chinese review sites and the only difference I could find was the firmware. I've actually been thinking about picking up a 128GB M3 and flashing it with M3P firmware to see what happens. I'll post back if I decide to do this tongue.gif
Edit: <3 Amd_Freak, but the PCB of the M3P even says M3S like ours lol - http://ksana.gotoip3.com/?p=554

Thanks for the link. Good info.!smile.gif

What i meant was does it worth to get 256GB M3P if you already got C300 128, i install and delete programs often so i guess the write speeds will benefit me right? biggrin.gif

Im pretty sure if you get a M3P 256gb you will be extremely happy no matter what you use it for, Im considering getting another and removing one of my other "storage drives"

Thanks!

can you tell me how you got it setup in control panel and generally tweaked?

P.S. CPU oc?

P.P.S. Im asking this because i think it has huge impact on AS-SSD results, ive seen as much as 30 to 40% less performance on 4K read to 50% on write on some systems which lead me to (possible) conclusion that system performance/setup/cpu oc has huge impact on the drive results in benchmarks and maybe real world usage? have no idea what can make so much of a difference.

Usually having Intel speedstep and C1E support enabled can affect 4K speed.

I have both, but somehow my CPU is fixed on 5.0Ghz i dunno why but i don't mind at all biggrin.gif

maybe that's why i got this awesome results in 4k segment? i think its highest i ever saw on any C300 128GB, 35mb/s on 4K read.

Has anyone used the Plextor M3S/M3P in an LSI MegaRaid? (Even better if 9280 or 9260 ish series.)

Or used the M3 with any brand of HW SAS/SATA RAID/HBA for that matter?

~

The Corsair Performance Pro is roughly the same internals as Plextor M3 just different firmware. (And not just talking the paring of Marvell Controller+Toshiba Memory, they literally even share the same PCB.)
The Crucial M4, and it's parent company Micron RealSSD C400, and to an extent Micron RealSSD p400e are also the same.
All the above use the same controller (slight revisions), different levels of cache, different firmware, etc.

Corsair's have trouble in MegaRaid requiring only cold boots (doesn't seem to be addressed):
http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102375

Crucial's have an unknown trouble with SAS expanders on firmware 0309 for HW raid cards (fix available upon request, they're working on QAing it for release).
http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/M4-firmware-0309-is-now-available/td-p/80286/page/9

I've found one review using an LSI 9211 HBA, but seemed do do nothing more than connect one drive, and who knows if they even bothered to try warm restarts.
Lots of software RAID comments (both linux & windows) but that's not gonna cut it obviously. Though SAS is designed to be backwards compatible with SATA...
