I do prefer not to have over 2 pounds of metal and plastic hanging off my board, as physically stable as it might be. I would rather have that weight mounted to the chassis. The fact that it looks cleaner is a plus.

Yup, i mean it just comes down to personal pref. If you dont mind spending the money to get good fans on it then then sound is not a problem. Although at that point might as well get into a custom loop for the cpu.

Pardon the old thread, but I am confused. The True is supposed to be one of the best air coolers in the market. What is wrong with it? Is the H80/H100 really significantly better?

Even my 750W PSU barely meets the power requirements of my current setup.
Lol!! Touché!!

From what I read in forums, it still holds its own compared to today's air coolers. Then is it worth going from the True to the Noctua or Silverarrow??

I'm afraid I can confirm this is totally incorrect.

I run my 3930K (see sig rig for more details) on an ASUS RIVE with a Corsair HX750W and an ASUS Radeon HD7970.
Both the 3930K and the 7970 are overclocked and I also put a custom watercooling loop on it. Runs just fine with lovely temperatures. smile.gif
But I do agree to get a H100, though. It's the next best thing apart from a custom watercooling loop. But when you do purchase this CLC (closed loop cooler), also get two more silent fans, eg. the Yate Loon D12SL-12, because Corsair's stock H100 fans... I'm sorry... suck.

Alternatively, you can go for a CM Hyper 212 +, which only goes for 25$. smile.gif

Probably not, temps wouldn't differ that much. When comparing coolers, even 3c is a big gap. But in real life, it's likely not worth it.

Glad someone found this old thread, allows me to provide an update. The very high idle temps turned out to be due to a buggy bios ASRock had. Moved to a beta bios and the problem went away.

Anyway, I eventually did upgrade to a corsair H100 and added a pair of fans to make it a pull push setup. The idle temps came down by about 5 C with H100 fans on high, from 40 to 35C, however load temps at 3.2 ghz stock there was a much higher delta, over 12C comparing the TRUE 120 with the H100. The mounting plate of the TRUE cooler is smaller than that of the H100 cooler. It is quite possible that there isn't a 100% contact coverage with the processor heatsink.

I have been extremely happy with the H100. The TRUE currently is retired and in a box, awaiting to go in to another socket 775 rebuild.

What mounting kit did you use with the TRUE? VenomousX + socket 2011 screws?
