Confusing question about what channel my SSD is on..

Thread Starter
hey all.

I've confused myself...I think

When I first built my computer, I had a single Hard disk, and a single SSD.

I followed Sean's guide to the T, and all was well.

Over near years I received two older HDD from my parents. pulled out all of my drives, put them in the cages, replugged them in. Thought nothing of it.

Then up updated my Bios. Again, thought nothing of it.

Tonight, I load up amd overdrive and look at the component diagram. Under my IDE channel, it lists the SSD. Shouldn't it be under my SATA channels?

I ran AS SSD benchmark, and scored almost 100pts below what it was originally. Went from a ~350 to a~ 260.

If it is indeed fubar's, do I need to do a fresh install of everything to get it to go back onto the SSD channels?

Its in IDE compatability mode, which gives maximum compatability to almost any component out there, even if the drives are SATA.

I believe it needs to run in AHCI, but u either need to patch the os with a script before turning it on or reinstall windows before turning or ur system won't usually boot.

Edit- installing Windows in ACHI, then turning IDE mode won't boot, so its the other way around.

Benefit of IDE mode is that u can usually put that SSD into a different computer and it will probably work compared to AHCI.

Look in the BIOS and see what it show's the drive listed as. Should be in AHCI mode.

It appears that everything is on an IDE channel.

Can you change it to AHCI? lol
SSD on IDE channel. They don't make those. SSD's are bottlenecked by IDE, it was proven by laptop SSD's that were made for IDE laptops.

And how could u not know about AHCI when ur sig rig board has it.

I fully know about AHCI, because it was IN AHCI when I first built it.

And Sean, I looked for the option to change it but all that was available when selecting it in the standard options was viewing the device info. Looks like I need to find my manual >.<<br />

edit: alright, found where I gotta screw around in the bios. I'll post back and see what I did.

Edit 2: Found it. Under integrated peripherals. Everything was set to native IDE. Changed it all to AHCI and enabled hot plug(ESP). Needless to say, windows booted in half the time
