Whats your recommendation for mobo, cpu and number of SLI i should get to run these monitors well? i realise you did much testing on pcie 2.0 and 3.0 with different speeds and SLI configs, and im trying to make sense of it all. Basically i want good fps in BF3 like around the 60-90 fps range. and not slow down. any setup that you could recommend?

I've found that two overclocked GTX 680's was not enough to run my 3x 1440P Catleap's properly. I'd say 3x would be a safe bet. You really can't run any MSAA though and will need to turn down some settings, unless you have the 4GB 680's. If you are looking for a new system to run that setup, you will be hard pressed to get any better than a 3770K and Gigabyte Sniper 3 like I am running. Awesome board for the money, I don't know how Gigabyte pulled it off.

The Koolance RAM block's have served me well for a couple of years worth of builds now. They keep the ram nice and cool and haven't leaked a single drop of liquid. thumb.gif Although they can be a bit tough to get one the ram sticks (I apply the thermal tape to the RAM sticks and then heat the RAM blocks up with a heat gun nice and hot and slide 'em on).

Hi Vega, thanks for your reply. would like to know what you think of the i5-3570k vs i7-3770k. if im not wrong games dont use HT much? or negligble? think the i5 is also slightly cheaper? just wanna tap your experience handling multiple boards/chips/cards smile.gif

yes i like the board too, its nice and green will match the custom fluoroscent green colour internals of my current asus vento 3600 case.

oh, btw, since u are switching to the gigabyte sniper 3, are there mobo blocks and chipset blocks for that or r you sticking to air cooling?

ive become a fan of your thread and have been reading every post smile.gif

edit: wow theres this new asrock extreme11 board that gives x16x16x16x16!! oh my good drool! couple that with 4x 4gb 680s and i can run max settings on any game and stuff on my 3 monitors. ")

3570K would be fine. I disable HT on my 3770K anyway. I just bought the 3770K just for the slightly larger L2 cache as it was only a few dollars more. I haven't seen a water block yet but I heard there was a rumor that one might come out. For now I just have a 200mm fan blowing down on the whole motherboard.

Ya, the Extreme 11 X79 will be an awesome board if and when it releases. That is the board I would go to if I go back to 4-way SLI in large Surround setups. 4x 4GB EVGA Classified 680's and the Extreme 11 would be about the best setup you could possibly have. Unfortunately NVIDIA Surround only allows a max of three displays, so I will be dabbling with two AMD 7990's and five overclocked catleap's in portrait Eyefinity (or possibly re-doing my 5x1 Samsung 23" 120Hz setup if the overclock catleap's aren't produced anymore and/or the 5x catleap's are just too tough to run even for 2x watercooled and highly overclocked 7990's in quad cross-fire). The two 7990's will each have their own 16x 3.0 slot on the Sniper 3 so it should work out well. That PLX chip is going to get a workout pushing 18.4 million pixels. biggrin.gif

A GTX 680 can only handle one VGA monitor at a time. He would need three GTX 680's or two GTX 690's. So you should be good with either of those combo's. thumb.gif

Great news about the Accell 330MHz DP to DVI adapter: http://www.accellcables.com/products/DisplayPort/DP/dp330_dvid.htm

They must have used a nice chip in here as I can overclock this bad boy to ~425 MHz pixel clock, or about 108 Hz on the Catleap. It's good to know that I can make one of my monster Eyefinity setups now and be at pretty good refresh rate. wink.gif

Now all I need is one more 2B Catleap monitor, three more of these adapters and 2x 7990's and my 18.4 million pixel de-bezeled 5x1 portrait Eyefinity build of ownage can commence. biggrin.gif
