Can I ask, have you played BF3 on any of the new CQ maps? Or conquest Metro? I find those maps particularly difficult to get really smooth, even if the FPS numbers are high. I am more interested in smoothness of frame delivery versus max FPS numbers.
Yes the online testing in the graph i posted earlier was actually from the new CQ map Scrapmetal. Even though framerate is about the same with FXAA & 2xMSAA, FXAA is much smoother. With the new CQ maps framerates range from 70fps up to 150fps depending on situation. I have been getting use to these amazing 120hz monitors and smoothness is very important to me also. With FXAA CQ maps are very smooth 80% off the time, looking smooth when fps>80, amazing >100fps, and absolutely stunning >120fps. When <80fps gameplay starts getting a little choppy/laggy. Never thought i would say choppy about 80fps, but these are my first 120hz monitors and they sure do make you scale smoothness/lag at a whole new perspective.
So my current goal is a constant fps above 100fps in BF3 multiplayer, 120fps constant would be better is possible. How is your framerate with BF3 multiplayer with your 3960x / x79/ 680 4-way?
Also most other AAA games run horrible even with CPU OC @ 4.88ghz.. Crysis 2 @ 50% GPU utilization, Metro 2033 as low as 30% GPU utilization! Batman AC is just a complete mess with frame rates and GPU use all over the place. Do these games run better for you? Or are these issues driver related?
Heavily contemplating going with 3930k / Asus rampage IV X79 even though i would be loosing some cash. Would i get @ the same gaming performance with the 3930 @ 5ghz vs your 3960x ?
Plus this Gigabyte g1 sniper board has been one of the most unstable boards ive had, even at stock speeds. Should have stayed with Asus.Edited by Swolern - 6/26/12 at 1:16pm
