My build, any advice?

post #1 of 7

This is in Australia, so it's not going to be as good at what you guys could get. Anyway;

CPU- i5 2500k

Motherboard- ASRock Z68 (Link for specs)

Memory- G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB

GPU- Gigabyte GTX 570

HDD- Seagate Barracuda 500GB, Samgung Spinpoint 500GB (RAID 1, I already have the Samsung drive), Intel 320 120GB

PSU- Corsair HX 650

Case- Antec 300

Cooling- CM Hyper TX3 with Arctic cooling MX-4

Intel drive for windows and games, HDD for reliable mass storage; music, work, rarely played games, all these things will go in the HDD. The only real stress on this machine will be gaming. The whole thing comes out cheaper than expected, but I'm happy with that. All I really want to know is whether this will boot up and run without any insane bottlenecks, or if the SSD will fizzle out instead of fizzling my nizzle. Important things.

if you get that system http://www.overclock.net/t/1198504/complete-overclocking-guide-for-sandybridge-asrock-motherboards/0_50 this should help alot biggrin.gif

But ahh if you are looking for better sequiential & random performance SSD I would look at the Sata3 solid states if you can afford to do so. I got this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148529 and it saturates my SATA2 ports easily while still pretty cheap but look at Seans SSD guide here As it will provide you with best info for best bang for buck and what to look for also when comparing the SSD controllers too since that makes a difference due to compressible and uncompressed data matter to certain ones.

Other then that system looks pretty good to me, but if your budget can handle it I would look into the 7900 series of AMD unless your monitor is under 1920x1080 resolution as it would not be the best bang for your buck unless you want it to be more future resistant when newer hardware comes out. I personally like the 7950 & 7970 models as they provide performance well above the GTX570 but thats if you can allow it into your budget.

But if i remember correctly hardware cost more and harder to find the best stuff in Australia. But either way it looks like a good system, as it would definitely put mine to shame in a heart beat tongue.gif

Your bad experience with your card doesn't mean the manufacturer is bad. Bad samples happen to every manufacturer (cf Asus 7950 DCUII for example biggrin.gif).

It's just like ASRock motherboards. Some are good, some are bad. Every manufacturer has some mess ups.
