That's really quite narrow-minded of you to assume that just because teenage autotune singers are the hype, that the HUNDREDS of other genres aren't still fresh and thriving. Talent and amazing music will always be out there if you only looked.
From my perspective and what I listen to (metal + most of its sub-genres, lots of japanese stuff, some classical, etc) the music industry is doing better than ever! I can't wait to listen to new talent on the horizon and more stuff from the brilliant artists I already adore.
Really, I'm beginning to get annoyed with the sheer number of people that keep beating their "oh what has happened to all the good music" drum everywhere they go. It's like someone taped their eyes/ears shut. Good music is right there in front of you, look for it

Just like to add, I am in two bands and am getting my taste of the music industry and I completely agree with you, but disagree at the same time.
I am a rock guitarist, in two hard rock bands. Playing on the circuit lets you see and meet so many good new or little bands working hard, making some real good music. BUT! when the big wig record label managers and judges off stupid smutty TV like the XFactor see talent and the oppertunity to make a fast buck out of some 2 bit little girl pub karaoke singer... It makes me say to myself "What has happened?"
Back in the day, bands like LED ZEPPELIN, AC/DC, THE ROLLING STONES, THE WHO, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, ETC ETC ETC...... got signed to big labels through working their asses off on the road playing gig after gig after gig.....
Managers and producers saw a band as an investment and got behind it to help push it in the direction of success..... That seems to have gone, the people in the positions now just want a fast buck out of some ten a penny singer.
The music industry is still what it always has been, evil. Its where love for making music meets making money... And that has killed so many good bands.
