Sea Islands would be next-gen past this, so no, 7970 is not their "mid-range" part for this gen. I can't wait to see GK104, I have a feeling a pair of them's going to be a treat at a much better price than the 7970 (15-20% faster 14 months later, LOL).
Unfortunately, the determination of where a GPU falls into the current market spectrum is what is released. If GK104 is released tomorrow, that is their new high end card. There is no GK110. If GK104 is the highest NV card on the market, while the GK110 is nowhere in sight you do the math. You can't call an unreleased part the high end.
And in response to your snide remark at the end, you're saying this while the GK110/112 is a known release for Q3-Q4? It appears to be pretty ironic that it will take nvidia until late Q3 to top the 7970. Perhaps the GK110 will be "15-20% faster 14 months later, LOL"
All that said, I don't have anything against NV and i'm looking forward to the GK104 as well. I hope to be pleasantly surprised because i'm sick of the rumors and BS guerilla marketing that NV is doing.Edited by xoleras - 2/26/12 at 10:37pm
