First Overclock

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I just joined Overclock.net last week to try and find some information on OCing and just information on PC-Building/tweaking in general.

Anyways, just wanted to report on my first stable overclock!

I have only gotten to 4.3GHz with stable temps currently. I was able to reach up to 4.7GHz with temperatures under 65C when running a game, however, intel burn test had me up in the 95 degree range so I shut that down pretty quick. I have a feeling I need to reset my heatsink with some new Arctic Silver as when I did it the first time, I used the paste that came on the unit. As well it was my first heatsink set, when I bought the parts they came with the processor on the board already, sadly I didn't get to learn how frown.gif needless to say it didn't go as smooth as possible. Had to move when first put it down as I dropped a screw :S.

Anyways I am happy to report a noticeable performance increase at stable temps and voltages. For future OC'ing I need to ditch my P8P67LE and pick up something a little better, I need to ditch the x16 x4 as well so that's my next investment. As well some watercooling in a couple months when I have some money.

Also have my HD6850 running stable at 925MHz 1150MHz.

Just thought I'd report back on my progress and thank everyone for the help and information! I like this community a lot so far!

thank you back kind sir (;

little tip, watercooling will cost you really much. think "trice" about it.. good aircoolers like scythe mugen 2revb ( yea its heavy ) for 30$
with two fans push pull will cool as good as an h50 and better than the one you use atm.
besides, with your cpu clock you are able to run SLI or crossfire, so better invest in another gpu + better aircooler instead of wc.
but.. if ya really really really really really really want to have watercooling i could understand and nobody could stop ya biggrin.gif

Hey thanks for the input, I have an Arctic Cooler 13 Pro with two fans, big heavy $40 heat sink. But I still push 90 when running Burn Test, I am guessing then that there is an air pocket or something and my cooler isn't doing what it should. I will reset it and see what happens. And as far as crossfire my board has x16/x4 pci-e slots so that has to wait til I get a new board.

hiho...

afaik i know from benchmarks theres no big difference for the second card if it is just 4x.. try to find specific benchmarks with xfire and sli with 16 + 4.
as ive seen your cooler, i took a look, it is not that massive like the one suggested or similar. and what you said about the fans maybe true also.
i gotta solve some personal problems now^^ .. ill come later again.. GL and HF surfing for the benches tongue.gif
