Anyone here got a couple or more HD 7970's installed can help me out? :(

If so, how are you getting on with drivers?

I dont mind admitting I have had an absolute mare with mine for actually playing any games.

They benchmark like a dream, but to actually get the damn machine to run any games, no way, constant BSOD 116 errors from ATI driver.
Was tricky with 2 cards, 3 seems an absolute waste of space.

Very annoyed today. A week of my life wasted on these cards, and been installing Win 7 ultimate 64 / office / drivers / steam / origin etc from scratch since 7pm last night and thena nice fresh set of 12.2 pre release drivers and cap 3 profiles.

Result...
  • Batman wont even start. CTD.
  • Hawx 2 wont run. BSOD
  • Alan wake. BSOD at first animation.
  • COD MW3. Works on one screen, eyefinity... forget it.
  • Skyrim. Works in a window only. Full screen or eyefinity. Instacrash BSOD 116.

Syndicate seems to work ok... but hey, i dont have a ******* X BOX CONTOLLER!
(Anyone whos got this will understand.)

I have Battlefield 3, shift 2 and F1 2011 yet to install, along with my current favourite, Crysis 2. I dont hold out much hope at all.

I think I may scrap this £4000 PC and go and play on my PS3. frown.gif

Any advice from folks who have been here and fixed this GREATLY appreciated. frown.gif

If you don't want to play with the 3D CrossfireX settings, do not install 12.1 CAP3.

Uninstall it then try again.

Can you elaborate please? I thought they were automated and used to FIX crossfire problems?

Everything is explained as how to in your other thread here;

Can anyone walk me through making a NON crossfired profile to play games?

If you installed 12.1 CAP3, go to Programs and Features in Control Panel then uninstall it.

Your system is messed up.

Uninstall everything, Catalyst, Afterburner and all GPU related apps.

Clean the traces with Atiman Uninstaller v.6.3.1

Then install this Catalyst 1/25/2012 http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/RC11Driver.aspx

Honestly dude right now drivers on the 79XX series are pretty bad. I have had numerous crashes with my single 7970. Still it is insanely fast and once they are better supported will be even faster. It's like this when pretty much any new card comes out. Sometimes it sucks to be on the bleeding edge.

I dont see why you think it is messed up, it is a brand new install of Win 7 64bit with ONLY the CCC 12.2 pre release (V8.95) and version 12.1ver3 caps, both downloaded directly from ATI site this morning after the format. There is no overclocking software on the machine at all. All I installed was some games and benchmarking software again. Not even got round to putting any office suite or work programs on it yet!

Prior to format (yesterday evening) i used version 8.96, the very latest driver with the same problems.

Has that one been proven better for Tri-fire than the much newer one I have on there now?

I agree, was much better when I also had one. Just incredible that their flagship card has no decent drivers for folk spending this kind of money on the hardware!
Wish I had hung in there for 3x keplers now. frown.gif

It's really not that big a deal. In a month everything will be fine. As it is I can play 90% of stuff well. Tri-fire/SLI is always iffy anyway. Doesn't matter Nvidia or AMD.

I'm in the middle of installing my new loop, bit before that I had very little issues on the 12.2 preview drivers. I play BF3, Dirt 3, metro 2033 and all ran pretty well. I experienced more issues with my 6970+6950 unlocked cf than these 7970's.... So far.

use Atiman uninstaller, install 12.2 drivers, disable ULPS, use AB for fans (if on air), off you go.

Erm... thats where I am now, ona totally fresh 64bit install but minus the potential problems of AB.
Mind you, havent disabled ULPS this time...! Will try that before I go to bed.
