Galaxy Nexus - No 4g, 3g only, ???

Hi there,

I upgraded from my Galaxy S1 to Galaxy Nexus, amazing difference, except one thing. THe new phone is stuck on 3g.

I have personally gone out and bought a 4g specific sim card, switched to it, hard booted, etc. Had the battery out 1min, sim out 1min (both at same time). No change.

My provider = bell, canada, alberta.

I am in a 4g zone, one of the 2 major cities here.

I have full bars, 3g.

I have gone under the network operators, chosen bell.

My apn is setup with pda.bell.ca (native to sim card).

My build on phone (came with, and it auto updated to), 4.04 ics.

I still get 3g.

I have now spent (and still am) 2hrs on live chat with a bell rep. They have asked me to do the same things i've already done.

I've tried 2g prefered, 3g prefered, 3g only. There is no 4g option, possibly due to sim card.

Phone is physically rated for 4g. I am getting less then average 3g speeds, slower then my galaxy s1...

I do not know why I am not getting 4g.

I have confirmed the sim card #'s on the card with the reps several times. They are scratching their heads.

And also the bell reps are repeating me in steps... that i've already done, before and during the chat.

Previously on gingerbread, and froyo, there was #341341355# (gibberish example) commands that could enable/disable certain phone features. I can't find out if ICS has this or not.

Can anyone help me?

Nope, not even. Have to sleep, i'll upload a youtube vid so people can see the top line. I use screencast to vid or screenshot. Great app. Demo'ing the phone, but horribly annoying stuck on 3g.

Going to see a manager @ a bell store, move my sim card into another phone with same update, see if issue persists. If it does... sol till update.
(Source on update reference?)

Where exactly did you buy your phone from? I'm not really sure how Canada's operators operate, but ATT and T-Mobile in the US sometimes use different bands, and difference GSM handsets might not work on each other's 4G networks.

there is a setting on the Verizon gnex to enable it.

Settings / wireless and networks / more / mobile networks / network mode

Have you looked to make sure it is enabled there?

Normally you use your provider simcard they ask you to call them back to confirm activation.sound like you baught a phone from a locked competitor.technicly they re the same but most wont activate 4g if they didnt sell it.(probably a faulty sim or handset tho)

Under mobile network settings

Data enabled (Yes is checked)
Data roaming is enabled
A;lways receive mms is enabled

Access point names = pda.bell.ca (enabled)
Under network type selection, 3g prefered, 2g prefered, 3g only. No 4g option from their operating system of ICS. (4.01 was the same, and it updated me to 4.04)

I activated the new sim card, and I provided them the imei of my phone itself as well, s/n, etc. Still no change, even after resetting, etc.

I did some checking, with the source manager, he knows the samsung rep very well (for canada). Seems that 4.02-4.04 ics, (not 4.01), the .0.2 - .0.4 are international, NON 4g. While 4g is native to 4.0.1. And soon eventually 4.0.5 will have 4g.

Basically, I have to find another rom, with 4.0.1 / 4g.

When I had mine, I used the 4.0.3 source and had the "H" which is Canada's 4G (NON-LTE, sold as 4G).

I used AOKP Build 24 GSM.
